Bobong is a town and administrative village in the district of West Taliabu, Taliabu Island Regency, the province of North Maluku, Indonesia. It is the capital of the Taliabu Island Regency, as well as the largest urban center in the regency. Its population is 3,486 people (2019), with an area of 69.32 km², and a population density of 50 people/km². [1]
Taliabu Island Regency consists of 8 districts, one of which is West Taliabu, where Bobong is located. Bobong, which is also an administrative village, is divided into 5 Rukun Tetangga (RT), 5 Rukun Warga (RW), and 5 hamlets. West Taliabu district borders on;
The population of Taliabu Island Regency is ethnically and religiously diverse. Some of the ethnic groups in the West Taliabu district are the Butonese, Makassarese, Buginese, Banggai, Ambonese, Sula, Bajau, and Javanese who are all immigrants, as well as the indigenous people of Taliabu (consisting of the Mange, Kadai, Siboyo, and Panto). Meanwhile, in Bobong in particular, the majority of the population are of the Butonese people. [4]
Based on data from the Statistics Indonesia of Taliabu Island Regency in 2019, it was recorded that the majority of the population of West Taliabu district embraced Islam, namely 90.94%. Then, those who embraced the Christianity were 9.06%, of which Protestantism were 6.48% and Catholicism were 2.58%. For places of worship, there are 2 mosques, 4 musallas, 1 Protestant church, and 1 Catholic church. [1]
In Bobong, there is land, sea, and air transportation. For land transportation, you can find motorcycle taxis. Meanwhile, sea vehicles can board ships via Bobong Port, and there is Bobong Airport for air transportation located in Talo village, south of Bobong. [5]
