Bodo People's Progressive Front (BPPF) is a political party in Assam, India, formed on 12 April 2005 for participation in the Bodoland Territorial Areas District elections.

Split

The party suffered a vertical split into BPPF(R) with Rabiram Narzary and BPPF(H) with Hagrama Mohilary, the then supremo of the dissolved Bodo Liberation Tigers Force as the Party President respectively. [1]

BPPF(H)

The Hagrama faction aligned with the Indian National Congress in the April 2006 elections for the Assam Assembly and won 11 seats. It became the junior partner in the Assam government. This was a historical occasion since the Bodo's, long associated with the Bodoland statehood movement, are now sharing power in Dispur, the capital of Assam.

BPPF(R)

The Rabiram faction, aligned with the Asom Gana Parishad in the April 2006 elections, did not win any seats in the Assam Assembly.

Bodo Liberation Tigers Force

The Bodo Liberation Tigers Force, also known as the Bodo Liberation Tigers, was an armed insurgent group that operated in the Bodo dominated regions of Assam, India. The group initially wanted to carve out a separate autonomy of Bodoland in Assam, but surrendered with the establishment of Bodoland Territorial Council, an upgrade of the Bodo Autonomous Council. The BLTF was founded on 18 June 1996 under the leadership of Prem Singh Brahma.

Hagrama Mohilary Indian politician

Hagrama Mohilary is an Indian politician who has served as the Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council. Mohilary was elected as the Chief of Executive Committee of the Bodoland Territorial Council which comprises thirteen other executive members. At present he is the chairperson of the Bodoland People's Front, Mohilary had been the head of Bodoland Territorial Council since its inception in 2003. He won the third General Assembly Elections 2015 and formed his Government for the third time. Mohilary's third term expired on 27 April 2020 and following the postponement of elections scheduled for 4 April 2020 a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, Bodoland is currently under Governor's rule. Mohilary was the chief of the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) before joining the mainstream politics in 2003.

May 2014 Assam violence

From the night of 1 May 2014 until the early morning hours of 3 May a series of attacks occurred on the Bengali Muslims in Assam, a north-eastern state of India. The perpetrator is unknown, but is suspected to be the National Democratic Front of Bodoland of Songbijit faction. Speculated to be revenge for not voting for the National Democratic Front in the Lok Sabha elections, the death toll reached 32.

2016 Assam Legislative Assembly election

The Assam Legislative Assembly Election of 2016 was held in two phases, on 4 and 11 April 2016, to elect members of the 126 constituencies in Assam, a state in North-eastern India. The overall voter turnout was 84.72%, which set a new record for Assam. The turnout was an increase from the 2011 Assembly election figure of 75%.

2015 Bodoland Territorial Council election

The 2015 Bodoland Territorial Council election was held on Wednesday, 8 April 2015 to elect the 3rd council of the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts. All 40 seats in the legislative assembly were set up for election. Bodoland People's Front won the election for the third consecutive term by winning 20 seats and 28.5 percentage of votes. BPF also lost 11 seats in contrast to last election in which they won 31 seats.

Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council is an Autonomous administrative divisions of India in the Indian state of Assam, for development and protection of ethnic Boro people living in villages outside the Bodoland Territorial Region. It was formed in 2020.
