C/F International

C/F International was a company that licensed television programming to stations, home video companies and other outlets around the world. Its Businessweek profile stated that, "C/F International, Inc. operates as a worldwide distributor of television and home video programming. It engages in the domestic and international licensing of entertainment and educational programs to broadcast television, cable television, satellite television, home video, digital versatile disc, and other video-related markets. The company is based in Ventura, California." [1]

The company's founder and principal was Burt Rosen, a Christopher Award co-winner, [2] whose reputation was initially established as a television producer. Rosen was also an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award winner.[ citation needed ]

In later years, the company had been engaged in litigation in relation to ownership and licensing interests involving singer Tom Jones. For example, as of December, 2004, C/F International was a secured judgement creditor of Classic World Productions and it principal, Darryl Payne, for approximately one million dollars, and was the principal secured creditor at the time of the subsequent bankruptcy filing by the company. C/F International's action against Classic World Productions and owner Darryl Payne was based on unpaid royalties in relation to the Tom Jones 1969-1971 ITC/ABC variety series, This Is Tom Jones , [3] and related recordings. [4]

C/F International's rights to later Tom Jones material were also subject to dispute. In March, 2007, Tom Jones and Tom Jones Enterprises sued C/F International to stop the company from licensing sound recordings made from Jones' 1981 series of variety shows, eponymously titled Tom Jones , which was syndicated in first-run by Rosen's prior company, EPI Limited. [5] It was contended that any rights that C/F International had to license the Tom Jones show did not include the right to make and license separate recordings of the performances on the show. In addition, it was contended that any rights that C/F International had in the Tom Jones show no longer existed, due to numerous breaches of contract. [6] The 1969-1971 This Is Tom Jones television shows are currently sold by Time-Life, rather than by Classic World Productions or C/F International. [7]

In 2008, Burt Rosen died, and the company has subsequently folded. The extent of resolution of the previously referenced litigation is uncertain.

Tom Jones was a syndicated television variety show, hosted by Tom Jones, that aired during the 1980-1981 television season. Twenty four episodes of the show were produced. The show was produced in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The format of the show was for Tom Jones to perform his old hits and solo covers, in addition to new songs with special duet partners. Solo covers included Jones's version of "Unchained Melody" and the Eagles' "Take It to the Limit". Duet highlights from the show included Jones's duet with Tina Turner of Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs", in addition to his duet with Gladys Knight of "Guilty", written by the Bee Gees and originally made popular by Barry Gibb and Barbra Streisand. Other singers featured included Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Donny Osmond, Marie Osmond and Stephanie Mills. Performances from the show have been issued in multiple DVD and CD editions.

David Winters was an English-American actor, dancer, choreographer, producer, film distributor, director and screenwriter. At a young age, he was seen acting in film and television projects such as Lux Video Theatre; Naked City; Mister Peepers; Rock, Rock, Rock; and Roogie's Bump. He received some attention in Broadway musicals for his roles in West Side Story (1957) and Gypsy (1959). In the film adaptation of West Side Story (1961) he was one of the few to be re-cast. Raggs is an Australian-American live action and animated musical preschool television series originally produced in Sydney, Australia, with additional U.S. production in English and Spanish. "Raggs"’ episode library includes 195 finished half hour episodes and 200 original songs in multiple languages. The musical and educational series is based on the original characters created by Toni Steedman, a Charlotte, NC, advertising executive, for her then six‐year‐old daughter Alison. It was broadcast in the US on 4 February 2008 on PBS Kids, after its initial run in Australia. In 2014, The Raggs Band reunited to record 20 classic kids songs to accompany new "Raggs" animation to be included in the show and distributed on the "Raggs" YouTube channel, RaggsTV.
