History

Cal joined several other California schools in founding an ice hockey program in the late 1920s and continued on with the sport despite the Great Depression hitting its budget throughout the '30s. Cal, along with most other schools, shuttered its program for the duration of World War II but was the only Pacific coast team to return after the war. The Golden Bears attempted to continue their program but, without a nearby rival to keep the interest up, Cal was forced to shutter the program in 1949. [2]

The team was partially revived as a club sport later and continues to operate as of the 2024-2025 Season. In 2018, the team added Michele Cox as General Manager. During the 23-24 season, the team revamped the program with an all-Cal Ice Alumni coaching staff with current Assistant Coach and former Cal Ice player Devin Cox as Head Coach. Also in 23-24, Club President and Team Captain Tyson Storr and GM Michele Cox added an internship program with a broadcast team led by Ryan Carlson, a marketing team led by Roxana Nourishad, and Game Day Operations Manager led by Auden Meyer. The team finished their 24-25 season with a historical undefeated record of 25-0 with Coach Devin Cox receiving the PAC-8 Coach-of-the-Year Award and Cal's play-by-play commentator, Ryan Carlson, receiving the PAC-8 Broadcasting Award.
