Canoe slalom is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. Canoeing has been featured as competition sports in the Summer Olympic Games since the 1936 Games in Berlin, and they were also demonstration sports at the 1924 Games in Paris. There are two disciplines of canoeing in Olympic competition: slalom and sprint.

The women's K-1 slalom competition in canoeing at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 13 and August 15, 2008 at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing. The K-1 event is raced by one-person kayaks through a whitewater course. The final was rescheduled to the 15th due to persistent lightning at the Park.

The ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships are an international event in canoeing organized by the International Canoe Federation. The World Championships have taken place every year in non-Summer Olympic years since 2002. From 1949 to 1999, they had taken place in odd-numbered years. The 2001 championships were scheduled to take place in Ducktown, Tennessee from 20 to 23 September, but were canceled in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

The men's slalom K-1 canoeing event at the 2015 Pan American Games will be held between the 18 and 19 of July at the Minden Wild Water Preserve in Minden Hills. At the Pan American Sports Organization's 2013 general assembly in Jamaica, canoe slalom competitions were added to the program. This will be the first time slalom has been staged at the Pan American Games. Furthermore, women will also compete in canoe races for the first time ever in both disciplines. The winners of the four canoe slalom competitions will qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. If the host nation of the Olympics (Brazil) wins the event, the runner up will qualify instead.

Canoeing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris ran across two main disciplines: canoe slalom, which took place from 27 July to 5 August, and canoe sprint, from 6 to 10 August. Both canoe slalom and sprint events were staged at the Stade d'eau vive Vaires-sur-Marne, National Olympic Nautical Stadium of Île-de-France in Vaires-sur-Marne.

The women's kayak cross event at the 2023 European Games took place on 2 July 2023 at the Kraków-Kolna Canoe Slalom Course in Kraków, with the qualification on 1 July 2023.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Canoeing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's slalom K-1</span>

The women's K-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place on 27 and 28 July 2024 at the National Olympic Nautical Stadium of Île-de-France in Vaires-sur-Marne. Jessica Fox won the event. She already has several Olympic medals in kayak slalom (K1) – a silver and two bronze – and a gold medal in canoe slalom (C1) from the Tokyo 2020 games. Klaudia Zwolińska won silver and Kimberley Woods bronze, for both of them it was the first Olympic medal.

The men's kayak cross slalom canoeing event at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place 2 August to 5 August 2024 at the National Olympic Nautical Stadium of Île-de-France in Vaires-sur-Marne.
