Carl-Edgar Jarchow (born 29 March 1955 in Hamburg) is a German politician (FDP) and chairman of the football club Hamburger SV.
Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany with a population of over 1.8 million, after the capital Berlin.
The Free Democratic Party is a liberal and classical liberal political party in Germany. The FDP is led by Christian Lindner.
Hamburger Sport-Verein e.V.[hamˈbʊʁɡɐ ˌʃpɔʁt fɛɐ̯ˈʔaɪ̯n], commonly known as Hamburger SV, Hamburg or HSV[haː ʔɛs ˈfaʊ̯], is a German sport club based in Hamburg, its largest branch being its football department. Although the current HSV was founded in June 1919 from a merger of three earlier clubs, it officially traces its origin to 29 September 1887 when the first of the predecessors, SC Germania, was founded. HSV's football team had the distinction of being the only team that had played continuously in the top tier of the German football league system since the founding of the club at the end of World War I. It was the only team that played in every season of the Bundesliga since its foundation in 1963, until 2018 when the team were relegated for the first time in history.
Jarchow was in the 1990s member of the Statt Partei and vice-chairman of this party in the state of Hamburg. In 2007 he became a member of the liberal FDP. At the 2011 Hamburg state election he was elected in the Hamburg Parliament. Since April 2011 he is a member of the Hamburg state executive board of the party. On 20 February 2011, a state election was held in Hamburg, Germany, for the 20th legislative period of the Hamburg Parliament after World War II. The election is a result of the collapse of the coalition government led by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Green Alternative List (GAL). The Hamburg Parliament was officially dissolved on December 15, 2010. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) won an absolute majority after winning 62 seats. Absolute majorities are considered rare in Germany. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) re-entered parliament after failing to win any seats in the previous election.
The Hamburg Parliament is the unicameral legislature of the German state of Hamburg according to the constitution of Hamburg. As of 2011 there were 121 members in the parliament, representing a relatively equal amount of constituencies. The parliament is situated in the city hall Hamburg Rathaus and part of the Government of Hamburg.
