Parodia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cactaceae, native to the eastern slopes of the Andes in northwestern Argentina and southwestern Bolivia and in the lowland pampas regions of northeastern Argentina, southern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and Uruguay. This genus has about 65 species, many of which have been transferred from Eriocactus, Notocactus and Wigginsia. They range from small globose plants to 1 m (3 ft) tall columnar cacti. All are deeply ribbed and spiny, with single flowers at or near the crown. Some species produce offsets at the base. They are popular in cultivation, but must be grown indoors where temperatures fall below 10 °C (50 °F).
Ezeiza Partido is a partido located in the southern part of Gran Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.
Lindquistomyces is a fungal genus in the family Amphisphaeriaceae. This is a monotypic genus, containing the single species Lindquistomyces antarcticus. This species was originally described as Ophiobolus antarcticus by Carlos Luigi Spegazzini in 1887.
Bionectria is a genus of fungi in the class Sordariomycetes. The genus was described in 1919 by mycologist Carlos Luigi Spegazzini to include species of Nectria that grew on living plant material.
Oudemansiella is a genus of fungi in the family Physalacriaceae. The genus contains about 15 species that are widely distributed in tropical and temperate regions. Yang and colleagues revised the genus in a 2009 publication, describing several new species and several varieties. They classified species in the genus into four sections based on the structure of the cap cuticle: Oudemansiella, Mucidula, Dactylosporina, and Radicatae.
Chlamydopus is a genus of fungi in the family Agaricaceae. It was circumscribed by Carlos Luigi Spegazzini in 1898.
Neonothopanus nambi is a poisonous and bioluminescent mushroom in the family Marasmiaceae. The genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying this species' bioluminescence were published in 2019, the first to be elucidated for a fungus. In 2020, genes from this fungus were used to create bioluminescent tobacco plants.
Hypasteridium is a genus of fungi in the family Meliolaceae. The genus was circumscribed by Carlos Luigi Spegazzini in 1924.
Psilocybe acutipilea is a species of mushroom-forming fungus in the family Hymenogastraceae. It was discovered in October 1881 in Apiahy, Sao Paulo State, Brazil by Carlos Spegazzini, and described by him as a new species of Deconica in 1889. Gastón Guzmán transferred it to Psilocybe in 1978, but Ramirez-Cruz considered it a possible synonym of Psilocybe mexicana, but the type specimen was too moldy for them to be certain.
Pseudocercospora is a genus of ascomycete fungi. An anamorphic version of the genus Mycosphaerella, Pseudocercospora species are plant pathogens, including the causal agent of the so-called South American leaf blight of the rubber tree. The widely distributed genus is concentrated predominantly in tropical regions. Pseudocercospora was circumscribed by Italian-Argentinian botanist Carlos Luigi Spegazzini in 1910.
Carlo Luigi Spegazzini, in Spanish Carlos Luis Spegazzini, was an Italian-born Argentinian botanist and mycologist.
The Haush language was an indigenous language spoken by the Haush people and was formerly spoken on the island of Tierra del Fuego. The Haush were considered the oldest inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego; they inhabited the far eastern tip of the Mitre Peninsula. They made regular hunting trips to Isla de los Estados.
Carlos Ciriaco Ameghino was an Argentine paleontologist and explorer who accompanied his brother Florentino Ameghino throughout Argentina searching for fossils.
The International Mycological Association (IMA) is a professional organization that promotes mycology, the study of fungi. It was founded in 1971 during the first International Mycological Congress, which was held in Exeter (UK).
Boletus loyo is a species of bolete fungus in the family Boletaceae that is found in South America. It was described as new to science by Carlos Luigi Spegazzini in 1912, who made the first scientifically documented collections in Argentina. The bolete is edible.
Cortinarius magellanicus is a species of agaric fungus in the family Cortinariaceae. It was described as new to science by mycologist Carlos Luigi Spegazzini in 1887. It has been found in South America and New Zealand, although collections made from the latter location appears to be genetically distinct from South American material.
Lentinula guarapiensis is a species of agaric fungus in the family Omphalotaceae that is found in Paraguay. Originally described by Carlos Luigi Spegazzini in 1883 as Agaricus guarapiensis, it was moved to the genus Lentinula by David Pegler in 1983. It is only known from the type collection.
Gymnocalycium baldianum, the spider-cactus or dwarf chin cactus, is a species of flowering plant in the cactus family Cactaceae, native to the Catamarca Province in Argentina.
Xenonectriella subimperspicua is a species of lichenicolous fungus in the family Nectriaceae. It has been recorded from South America, Europe, and New Zealand.
Arachnomyces flavidulus is a species of ascomycete fungus discovered in 1912 by botanist Carlo Luigi Spegazzini. It was recovered from rotting Eucalyptus globulus leaves from a park in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
