In creating her photographic work, she does not use a camera; her photographic work is created in a darkroom directly on Ilfochrome (formerly Cibachrome) paper. Known for her botanical imagery, she projects the light through her subjects onto the positive receiving Ilfochrome color photographic paper, creating one-of-a-kind images. [1] Her images are made with transmitted [2] light, creating clarity and saturation. [3] She worked with this experimental process [4] for more than 20 years. Because of her unique process of directing light through her subject-matter, The San Francisco Chronicle named Carol Henry as one of the 100 reasons to visit Carmel, CA during Carmel's 100 year anniversary celebration, calling her botanical photography "...erotic, vibrant, bold and delicate at the same time" [5]
Carol Henry has explored more camera-less photographic techniques since 2012 when Ilfochrome paper ceased to be manufactured. [6] The cyanotype process, from the mid 1800s [7] has been embraced by Carol Henry to continue her exploration of natural subjects and the human narrative using light and form. [8]
In 2016, Carol Henry spent a full year researching and gathering work by 12 renowned women photographers with the male as subject, to form the exhibition, She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not. The exhibition celebrates a hundred years of successful women in the medium and reveals a less than exhibited photo topic! She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not features 12 of the most renowned women in photography showing images of men in their work. [9] The exhibit opens with silver gelatin photographs by Imogen Cunningham, who was called an “immoral woman” for exhibiting nude fine-art photographs of her own husband. [10] Other women included in the exhibit are Edna Bullock, Martha Casanave, Jodi Cobb, Judy Dater, Flor Garduño, Dorothea Lange, Sally Mann, Mary Ellen Mark, Holly Roberts, Adrienne Salinger, Joyce Tenneson and Henry herself. The exhibition opened in January 2017 at the Center for Photographic Art [11] [12] and went on to The Florida Museum of Photographic Art in June 2017. [13] [14] The final venue for the exhibit was Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, CA October 2017. [15]

The Forest Theater is an historic amphitheater in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Founded in 1910, it is one of the oldest outdoor theaters west of the Rockies. Actor/director Herbert Heron is generally cited as the founder and driving force, and poet/novelist Mary Austin is often credited with suggesting the idea. As first envisioned, original works by California authors, children's theatre, and the plays of Shakespeare were the primary focus. Since its inception, a variety of artists and theatre groups have presented plays, pageants, musical offerings and other performances on the outdoor stage, and the facility's smaller indoor theatre and school.

Dody Weston Thompson was a 20th-century American photographer and chronicler of the history and craft of photography. She learned the art in 1947 and developed her own expression of “straight” or realistic photography, the style that emerged in Northern California in the 1930s. Dody worked closely with contemporary icons Edward Weston, Brett Weston and Ansel Adams during the late 1940s and through the 1950s, with additional collaboration with Brett Weston in the 1980s.

Deborah Springstead Ford is an American photographer noted for her fine art black and white combination printed photographs exploring ambiguous perceptual realities. She has photographed her family, western landscapes and cultural artifacts, with much of her photographic work drawing on the relationships between science and art, the natural world and cultural geography. Most recently her photographs of oil and gas exploration in the Powder River Basin and the high desert west have received attention and been published in Arid. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibits in museums and galleries around the continent, and is included in many private and public collections such as the Center for Creative Photography, California Museum of Photography, and Northlight Gallery. She has been an arts advocate, educator and program administrator in addition to being a professional visual artist for over 30 years. Ford attended Minneapolis College of Art & Design, Arizona State University and Goddard College. She has a BFA in Photography, a Master's in Art Education/Photographic Studies and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts. She was a professor of Photographic Studies at Prescott College. She taught photography full-time from 1982-2013, the last 18 years at Prescott College in northern Arizona. As an arts advocate, Ford was instrumental in the creation of the Prescott College Art Gallery. The gallery and Ford have both been nominated for Arizona Governor's Art Awards. She has received numerous awards and fellowships, including four Arizona Commission on the Arts Grants and participated in many Artist-in-Residence programs around the country including the Biosphere 2, Ucross Foundation, Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Arts, Sitka Center for Art & Ecology, Joshua Tree National Park, Isle Royale National Park, and Aspen Guard Station. Ford's photographs have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Recent publications include a profile in Black and White Magazine, Issue #82. and photographs in Orion magazine. Ford was the Executive Director of Playa, in Summer Lake Oregon, a residency program for visual artists, scientists, writers and others engaged with creative inquiry from 2013-2017.

The Sunset Center is located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. It is a performing arts center which features concerts, comedy, theatre, and dance. Formerly the Sunset School, the site was purchased by the city of Carmel in 1965 with the plan to develop it into a cultural center. It is home to the Carmel Bach Festival. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 9, 1998.

Winston Swift Boyer is an American fine art photographer living in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, and is best known for his color photography of landscapes in the United States and Europe. Since the late 1970s, Boyer's photography has engaged a wide variety of subject matter, including landscapes, architecture, portraits, and still-lifes. Boyer's first gallery exhibition was in 1979. He has exhibited in Paris, Canada, New York City, Massachusetts, and California. His work is included in permanent collections in the United States, including the Crocker Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago. Boyer is the author of American Roads, published by Little, Brown and Company, Bullfinch Press, a photographic chronicle of driving tours through the United States.
