Åbo Akademi University is the only exclusively Swedish language multi-faculty university in Finland. It is located mainly in Turku but has also activities in Vaasa. Åbo Akademi should not be confused with the Royal Academy of Åbo, which was founded in 1640, but moved to Helsinki after the Turku fire of 1827 and is today known as the University of Helsinki.

Åbo Svenska Teater is a Finland-Swedish theatre in the city of Turku in Finland and the oldest theatre in the country, founded in 1839. Pierre Joseph Deland was a Swedish stage actor and theatre director. He was the director of the Deland Theater Company in 1833-1861, a travelling theater famous in both Sweden and Finland, and as such an influential and well known figure of the stage life of both countries in the mid 19th-century. She introduced the spinning jenny and the linen weaver profession in Finland, and had an unusual position for her gender at the time, being a woman sent on government support and power of attorney to in effect introduce a new profession.
Fredrique Eleonore Baptiste, was a Swedish stage actress and playwright active in Finland. She belonged to the star attractions of the Finnish theater in the early 19th-century, when theater in Finland was performed by travelling Swedish language theaters. Her plays where successful among travelling theater companies in both Finland and Sweden during the 19th century.
