The Central Connecticut Blue Devils women's basketball team represents Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Northeast Conference. [2] [3]

Contents

History

Central Connecticut began play in 1971. They played in Division II from 1971-1986. As of the end of the 2015-16 season, the Blue Devils have an all-time record of 467-673. They have never made the NCAA Tournament, but they have made the WNIT in 2009 and 2015. [4]

Head coach Beryl Piper was placed on administrative leave on January 16, 2020. [5] In May 2020 Piper announced her retirement from CCSU. [6] She retires as the most winning head coach in CCSU women's basketball history. Assistant coach Kerri Reaves has taken over the head coaching position on an interim basis. [7]

In April of 2023, Central Connecticut State announce that Way Veney would become the new head coach of the women's basketball program. [8]

In 2005 it received a new floor, the first since the facility opened in 1965. The Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was held there in 1998, 2002, and 2007. The Central Connecticut–Hartford rivalry refers to the American collegiate athletics rivalry between the Central Connecticut Blue Devils sports teams of Central Connecticut State University and Hartford Hawks sports teams of the University of Hartford. The two campuses are located 10 miles apart. Unlike most in-state rivalries Hartford and Central Connecticut compete in difference conferences. The 2019 Northeast Conference women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Northeast Conference held on November 8 and 10, 2019. The three-match tournament took place at Central Connecticut Soccer Field in New Britain, Connecticut, home of the regular season champions and tournament #1 seed Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. The four-team single-elimination tournament consisted of two rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils who successfully defended their title, defeating the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights 1–0 in the final. This was the tenth Northeast Conference tournament title for the Central Connecticut women's soccer program, eight of which have come under the direction of head coach Mick D'Arcy.
