Champagne Problems is a 2025 American romantic comedy film written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson and starring Minka Kelly.
Executive Sydney Price flies to Paris to acquire a champagne brand for her company before Christmas, but after promising her sister to take one night off, she has a magical evening with a local - only to find his company is their proposed acquisition.
The film was released on Netflix on November 19, 2025. It debuted at #1 in the world and received positive reviews from critics.
During a meeting at The Roth Group (TRG), Sydney suggests they get into the Champagne business, whereupon her boss Marvin asks her to go to Paris to buy the Champagne Chateau of Hugo Cassell. Her sister Skyler extracts a promise from Sydney that she take one night off in Paris to see the city.
In Paris, Sydney checks out a bookstore called Les Etoiles, where a French gentleman, Henri directs her to the self-help section. He admits that he doesn't really work there, but wants to eventually open a bookstore that also serves wine. He offers to guide her around the city, and she accepts. He takes her to see the Eiffel Tower and treats her to Crepe and hot wine. He says one of his biggest regrets was that he misplaced a book, "Le Petit Prince", that was gifted to him by his mother who died when he was six. She shares that about being married for two years, which ended when her husband cheated on her.
The next morning, Sydney arrives late for her meeting with Hugo Cassell, and is shocked to find Henri there, who happens to be Hugo's son. Roberto and Otto, Sydney's competitors to the acquisition of Chateau Cassell, are also in attendance, as is Brigitte, Hugo's business partner. All of them are invited to spend a couple of days at Chateau Cassell. Marvin calls Sydney after the meeting, and being unhappy with her lack of aggressiveness, sends another employee to Paris, Ryan, to assist her in the purchase of the Chateau.
At Chateau Cassell, the guests are served wine and cheese, and taken to see a Christmas celebration in Paris with fireworks. The group visits the vineyard to aid in the pruning of the grapevines, and also have a Christmas tree decorating contest. Hugo takes a walk with Sydney and shows the location around the Chateau where he had gotten married to his late wife Sophie. Later, while chasing the family dog, Sydney finds the book, Le Petit Prince, that Henri had lost years ago, near a wine cellar.
Ryan arrives at Chateau Cassell and reveals to Sydney that TRG is planning to ultimately hand over the Chateau to the Japanese company Takami, making a $50 million profit in the process, and congratulates her for her support. Henri overhears the conversation and is upset, but leaves before Sydney voices her opposition to Ryan's scheme. Ryan threatens to get her fired if she doesn't go through with the proposal.
Sydney sees Hugo working on his car and divulges the strategy of TRG to him, and then packs her bags and leaves. The next day, Hugo sells Chateau Cassell to Roberto, causing Ryan to leave in a huff. Hugo tells Henri that it was because Sydney had warned him about the plan hatched by TRG, and Henri realizes he's made a terrible mistake with her. He drives to her hotel, but discovers that she has already checked out. The Hotel concierge asks him to try the Les Etoiles bookstore, where he finally makes up with her.
A year later at the Chateau Cassell, Henri and Sydney celebrate Christmas with Roberto, Otto and Skyler. [2]
