The film premiered at the Hartford Public Library on June 11, 2016. [1] It was then released in theaters in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta in February 2017. [4]

Nick Schager of Variety gave the film a positive review and wrote "...despite its familiarity, Chapter & Verse manages to make its material both fresh and authentic." [3]
Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter also gave the film a positive review and wrote "Resonating with an authenticity borne of the experiences of its director/co-screenwriter Jamal Joseph, Chapter & Verse movingly portrays the plight of a recently released ex-con striving to make a new life for himself on the mean streets of Harlem." Wonderful World is a 2010 dark comedy-drama film written and directed by Joshua Goldin, and starring Matthew Broderick, Sanaa Lathan, Michael K. Williams, Jodelle Ferland, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ally Walker, and Philip Baker Hall. It is Goldin's directorial debut. The story revolves around a misanthropic, former children's folk singer having his life changed after his Senegalese roommate goes into a diabetic coma, and the sister who arrives to take care of him that he falls in love with.

Dark Streets is a 2008 film adaptation of the play by Glenn M. Stewart, directed by Rachel Samuels from a screenplay by Wallace King.
