Christopher Flanagan is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with the Westmeath senior inter-county hurling team. On 22 May 2011, he made his championship debut against Carlow in the 2011 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, starting at right corner back in a 4-10 to 1-14 win.^[1]

Hurling is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic and Irish origin. It is administered by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The game has prehistoric origins, and has been played for 4,000 years. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players, and much terminology. There is a similar game for women called camogie. It shares a common Gaelic root with the sport of shinty, which is played predominantly in Scotland.

The Westmeath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) or Westmeath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Westmeath. The county board is also responsible for the Westmeath inter-county teams.

Andy Comerford is a hurling manager and former player, and manager of the Kildare senior inter-county team. He played hurling with his local club O'Loughlin Gaels and with both the Kilkenny and London senior inter-county team in the 1990s and 2000s.

The 2007 Christy Ring Cup began on Saturday, 9 June 2007. The Christy Ring Cup is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association since 2005 for middle-ranking hurling teams in Ireland. The 2007 competition was won by Westmeath GAA.

The 2019 All-Ireland Under-20 Hurling Championship will be the inaugural staging of the All-Ireland Under-20 Championship and the 56th staging overall of a championship for players between the minor and senior grades of hurling. The championship will begin in May 2019 and is scheduled to end on 25 August 2019.
