Rehearsals take place at the Friends' Meeting House, Bull Street in central Birmingham on Tuesday evenings from 6.30 - 8.30 pm.
The choir's conductor and music director (since 2002) is Adrian Lucas.
The City of Birmingham Choir was founded in March 1921 and its first president was no less a figure than Sir Granville Bantock, who was Principal of what was then called the Birmingham and Midland Institute School of Music, and who was a recognised composer in his own right. The new Choir presented its first concert at the Town Hall on 28 November, conducted by Joseph Lewis.
The War Requiem, Op. 66, is a large-scale setting of the Requiem composed by Benjamin Britten mostly in 1961 and completed in January 1962. The War Requiem was performed for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral, which was built after the original fourteenth-century structure was destroyed in a World War II bombing raid. Rattle was principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2018. He is currently music director of the London Symphony Orchestra, since September 2017. The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) is a British orchestra based in Birmingham, England.
