Cloudy's Knight (foaled May 2, 2000 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Out of Northern Dancer's granddaughter Cloudy Spot, he was sired by the 1980 American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt, Lord Avie. The horse has been successful racing on both synthetic dirt and turf.

Kentucky, officially the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a state located in the east south-central region of the United States. Although styled as the "State of Kentucky" in the law creating it, (because in Kentucky's first constitution, the name state was used) Kentucky is one of four U.S. states constituted as a commonwealth. Originally a part of Virginia, in 1792 Kentucky split from it and became the 15th state to join the Union. Kentucky is the 37th most extensive and the 26th most populous of the 50 United States.

The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word thoroughbred is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Thoroughbreds are considered "hot-blooded" horses that are known for their agility, speed, and spirit.

Horse racing is an equestrian performance sport, typically involving two or more horses ridden by jockeys over a set distance for competition. It is one of the most ancient of all sports, as its basic premise – to identify which of two or more horses is the fastest over a set course or distance – has been unchanged since at least classical antiquity.

In 2007, under trainer Frank Kirby, ridden by Ramsey Zimmerman, Cloudy's Knight won the richest and most important race of his career, the $2 million Grade 1 Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada. This win combined with his victory in Woodbine's G2 Sky Classic Stakes, contributed to his being voted Canada's Sovereign Award for Champion Male Turf Horse.

A graded stakes race is a thoroughbred horse race in the United States that meets the criteria of the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA). A specific grade level is then assigned to the race, based on statistical analysis of the quality of the field in previous years, provided the race meets the minimum purse criteria for the grade in question. In Canada, a similar grading system is maintained by the Jockey Club of Canada. Graded stakes races are similar to Group races in Europe but the grading is more dynamic in North America.

Woodbine Racetrack is a casino and horse racing track in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the only horse racing track in North America which stages, or is capable of staging, thoroughbred and standardbred horse racing programs on the same day. It is owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group.

In 2009, following a year-long layoff as a result of a serious tendon injury, the nine-year-old gelding came back to another highly successful campaign for trainer Jonathan Sheppard. Under Champion jockey Rosemary Homeister, Jr., Cloudy's Knight raised his career earnings to more than $2.4 million with wins in the Kentucky Cup Turf Stakes and Sycamore Stakes at tracks in Kentucky, a second by a nose in the mile and three-quarter Breeders' Cup Marathon at Santa Anita Park , and on December 6, he won in the mile and three-quarter Valedictory Stakes at Woodbine. . In his final race in the year 2009, the 9-year-old took the W. L. McKnight Handicap from Presious Passion, who had won the race in 2007 & 2008.

Deputy Minister was a Canadian-bred Thoroughbred horse racing Champion. At age two, he won eight out of his nine starts and was voted both the Sovereign and Eclipse Awards for Champion 2-Year-Old in Canada and the United States respectively. He also received Canada's Sovereign Award for Horse of the Year. Although his three-year-old campaign was restricted by injury, Deputy Minister rebounded at age four with several major wins.

The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf is an American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old horses, run on a grass course at a distance of one mile. It is part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, the de facto year-end championship for North American thoroughbred racing. All Breeders' Cups to date have been conducted in the United States, with the exception of the 1996 event in Canada.

Tepin is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse who was named the American Champion Female Turf Horse of 2015 and 2016. She showed very promising form as a two-year-old in 2013 when she won the Delta Princess Stakes on the dirt. After a disappointing three-year-old season when she failed to win in four starts, she emerged as a top-class turf performer in 2015. Her wins as a four-year-old included the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes, Just A Game Stakes and First Lady Stakes before recording her biggest success when defeating male opposition in the Breeders' Cup Mile. In 2016, she won her first four starts and was then sent to England, where she defeated a field of leading European milers to win the Queen Anne Stakes. On returning to North America, she extended her winning streak to eight in the Woodbine Mile. The streak included three Grade/Group 1 wins against male horses in three different countries. Although Tepin finished second in her next two starts including an effort to defend her title in the Breeders Cup Mile, she was still named the Champion Female Turf Horse for the second year in a row.

Court Vision is a retired racehorse who was a five time Grade I winner including the Breeders' Cup Mile. Upon retirement to stud in 2012, he first stood in Ontario, then was moved to Kentucky for 2016 then Louisiana for 2017.
