The Texas Medical Center (TMC) is a 2.1-square-mile (5.4 km2) medical district and neighborhood in south-central Houston, Texas, immediately south of the Museum District and west of Texas State Highway 288. Over 60 medical institutions, largely concentrated in a triangular area between Brays Bayou, Rice University, and Hermann Park, are members of the Texas Medical Center Corporation—a non-profit umbrella organization—which constitutes the largest medical complex in the world. The TMC has an extremely high density of clinical facilities for patient care, basic science, and translational research.
Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is a private, independent health sciences center in Houston, Texas within the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical center. The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) is a public medical school in Fort Worth, Texas. It is a graduate-level institution of the University of North Texas System. Established in 1970, UNT Health Science Center consists of five colleges with a total enrollment of 2,243 graduate students (2014–15). The institution offers degrees in both osteopathic and allopathic medicine, public health, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, and biomedical sciences. The World Directory of Medical Schools lists both the MD and DO granting institutes as US medical school along with other accredited US MD and DO programs.

Weill Cornell Medicine, officially the Joan & Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University, is the biomedical research unit and medical school of Cornell University. The medical college is located at 1300 York Avenue, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City, along with the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. The college is named for its benefactor, former Citigroup chairman Sanford Weill.
The Texas A&M Health Science Center, a component of Texas A&M University, offers health professions research and education in dentistry, medicine, nursing, biomedical sciences, public health, and pharmacy. It was established in 1999 as an independent institution of the Texas A&M University System and received accreditation in December 2002 from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral and professional degrees. Some, unique to the United States, confer a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree. Most schools follow a similar pattern of education, with two years of classroom and laboratory based education, followed by two years of clinical rotations in a teaching hospital where students see patients in a variety of specialties. After completion, graduates must complete a residency before becoming licensed to practice medicine.

AHSCs are intended to ensure that medical research breakthroughs lead to direct clinical benefits for patients. Robert S. Stone was an American physician. He served as the Director of The National Institutes of Health from May 29, 1973 to January 31, 1975. Stone also served as the vice president for health services and dean of the school of medicine at the University of New Mexico, dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center and vice president of the Health Sciences Center, and dean of the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine.
The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University is a private, for-profit medical school on the New Mexico State University campus in Las Cruces, New Mexico. It is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation and graduated its first class in 2020. The World Directory of Medical Schools lists the school as a US medical school along with other accredited US MD and DO programs.
