The Toronto Stock Exchange is a stock exchange in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the 9th largest exchange in the world by market capitalization. Based in the Exchange Tower in Toronto's Financial District, the TSX is a wholly owned subsidiary of the TMX Group for the trading of senior equities. A broad range of businesses from Canada and abroad are represented on the exchange. In addition to conventional securities, the exchange lists various exchange-traded funds, split share corporations, income trusts and investment funds. More mining and oil and gas companies are listed on Toronto Stock Exchange than any other stock exchange.

S&P/TSX Composite Index

The S&P/TSX Composite Index is the benchmark Canadian index, representing roughly 70% of the total market capitalization on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) with about 250 companies included in it. The Toronto Stock Exchange is made up of over 1,500 companies. It replaces the earlier TSE 300 index. On April 23, 2019, the S&P/TSX Composite Index reached an all-time closing high of 16,669.40. The intraday record high was also made on April 23, 2019 at 16,672.71.
