The Protected areas of New South Wales include both terrestrial and marine protected areas. At 30 June 2010 there were 776 separate terrestrial protected areas with a total land area of 6,641,256 hectares. 189 of these are national parks, totalling 5,045,422 hectares. At the same time there were 18 aquatic protected areas with a total area of 347,087 hectares.
A nature reserve is a protected area of importance for flora, fauna or features of geological or other special interest, which is reserved and managed for conservation and to provide special opportunities for study or research. Nature reserves may be designated by government institutions in some countries, or by private landowners, such as charities and research institutions, regardless of nationality. Nature reserves fall into different IUCN categories depending on the level of protection afforded by local laws. Normally it is more strictly protected than a nature park.

Varden Conservation Area is a Pennsylvania state park on 343 acres (139 ha) in Lake and South Canaan Townships, Wayne County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The conservation area is currently under development. The land was donated to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in December 2001 by Dr. Mead Shaffer a veterinarian and resident of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania in Delaware County. Dr. Shaffer stated his reason for donating the land, "Environmental education always has been a primary concern of mine. I trust this land will allow present and future generations to observe and study the diverse ecology found in the Varden Conservation Area." Varden Conservation Area is near the unincorporated village of Varden on Pennsylvania Route 296, east of the Lackawanna County line.
Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area is a 949.49-acre (384.24 ha) Pennsylvania state park in Lower Paxton and Middle Paxton Townships, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The land for the conservation area was donated to the state by real estate developer Alex Boyd in 1999. Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area is a sanctuary for mature trees and an environment education study area. The park is on Blue Mountain just off Pennsylvania Route 443.
Yumbarra Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located about 55 kilometres north of the town centre of Ceduna.
Olive Island Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia associated with Olive Island off the west coast of Eyre Peninsula and which is located about 25 kilometres west-northwest of the town of Streaky Bay.

Beachport Conservation Park is a protected area located in the Limestone Coast of South Australia about 80 kilometres north-west of Mount Gambier and immediately north of the township of Beachport. The conservation park was originally created as a reserve in 1959, declared as a National Park in 1959 and was re-proclaimed as a conservation park under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 for the purpose of setting ‘aside to preserve and protect a representative sample of the coastal environment of south east South Australia.’ The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area.
Little Dip Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the Limestone Coast about 105 kilometres north-west of Mount Gambier and about 5 kilometres south of the town of Robe. It was proclaimed as a conservation park under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 in 1975 for the purpose of conserving 'remnant vegetation and a chain of small lakes which combine to provide habitat for several endangered and vulnerable bird species' and managing 'the increasing use' of the locality 'for recreation purposes'. The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area.
Wabma Kadarbu Mound Springs Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia. It is located in Stuarts Creek, about 130 kilometres north of the town of Marree via the Oodnadatta Track in the state's Far North. The conservation park was proclaimed under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 in 1996. As of 2012, it is subject to a co-management agreement between the Arabana aboriginal people and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources
