The Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Period/Fantasy Film was one of the annual awards given by the Costume Designers Guild.

The 1st Costume Designers Guild Awards in 1998 presented a combined award to honor achievements in film costume design without any genre distinction; it was split into Excellence in Period/Fantasy Film and Excellence in Contemporary Film the following ceremony. Since 2005, the former award has been further divided into Excellence in Fantasy Film and Excellence in Period Film, two separate categories. [1]

Mussenden won the 2006 Costume Designers Guild Award for excellence in fantasy film for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Mussenden has worked on numerous well-known films including American Psycho, Drag Me to Hell, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Mussenden was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2008.

The Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Period Costume Design for Television Series was awarded for the first time in 2000, honoring 1999 television. While it did honor period costumes, it also honored fantasy television, and the award was titled Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Period/Fantasy Television Series. Those two genres were separated into their own awards categories in 2016, resulting in the current award designation.
