The middleweight division in mixed martial arts refers to different weight classes:
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is an American mixed martial arts promotion company based in Las Vegas, Nevada, that is owned and operated by parent company William Morris Endeavor. It is the largest MMA promotion company in the world and features the highest-level fighters on the roster. The UFC produces events worldwide that showcase twelve weight divisions and abide by the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. As of 2018, the UFC has held over 400 events. Dana White serves as the president of the UFC. White has held that position since 2001; while under his stewardship, the UFC has grown into a globally popular multi-billion-dollar enterprise.
Strikeforce was an American mixed martial arts and kickboxing organization based in San Jose, California which operated from 1985 to 2013. It was headed by CEO Scott Coker. Its live events and competitions have been shown on CBS and Showtime in the United States, Super Channel in Canada, Primetime in the United Kingdom, SKY PerfecTV! in Japan, HBO Plus in Brazil, Space in Latin America and the Caribbean, and on the American Forces Network.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Wallace is a United States Army veteran, enlisting after high school. Wallace was a U.S. Open Karate Champion before transitioning to Muay Thai in 1999. An accomplished striker, Wallace has held the 2003 ISKA Cruiserweight Muay Thai Championship as an amateur. He also won the 2003 ISKA Middleweight Muay Thai Tournament Championship as a professional by winning 3 fights by knockout in one night. [1] Wallace is also known for competing for the Miami Force in the World Combat League, which is a kickboxing organization promoted by Chuck Norris. He went 11-0 before the organization was dissolved.
The United States Army (USA) is the land warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces. It is one of the seven uniformed services of the United States, and is designated as the Army of the United States in the United States Constitution. As the oldest and most senior branch of the U.S. military in order of precedence, the modern U.S. Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed to fight the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783)—before the United States of America was established as a country. After the Revolutionary War, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on 3 June 1784 to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The United States Army considers itself descended from the Continental Army, and dates its institutional inception from the origin of that armed force in 1775.
Muay Thai or literally Thai boxing is a combat sport of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs" as it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the late 20th to 21st century, when westernized practitioners from Thailand began competing in kickboxing, mixed rules matches, as well as matches under Muay Thai rules around the world. The professional league is governed by The Professional Boxing Association of Thailand (P.A.T) sanctioned by The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), and World Professional Muaythai Federation (WMF) overseas.
The World Combat League (WCL) was a full contact, team-based kickboxing promotion. It was founded by movie star and martial artist Chuck Norris.
Wallace began his professional mixed martial arts career going 7–1–1 and ending the majority of his wins in the first round. In 2006 Wallace fought Ray Routh at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Gracie, winning via KO (knee) early in the second round. Wallace then won three more fights by stoppage before signing with the UFC.
Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Gracie was the inaugural mixed martial arts event promoted by Strikeforce. The event took place at the HP Pavilion at San Jose in San Jose, California on March 10, 2006. The main event was the long awaited match between Frank Shamrock, returning to the sport after a 3-year absence, and Cesar Gracie. The show is also notable for featuring the MMA debut of Cung Le.
Wallace made his UFC debut on August 17, 2006, he faced Martin Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 6, losing via rear-naked choke. Wallace then won his next two fights by stoppage before returning to the UFC against future Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt at Ortiz vs. Shamrock: The Final Chapter. Wallace was submitted in round two.
