The Crow Hollow Site is located in Haney, Wisconsin, USA.
Haney is a town in Crawford County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 309 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Barnum and Petersburg are located within the town.
The site is a rare Middle Archaic campsite along the Kickapoo River, occupied as early as 5,000 years ago, where archaeologists have found points, scrapers, grindstones and refuse and storage pits. [2] It was added to the State and the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. [3]
The Kickapoo River is a 126-mile-long (203 km) tributary of the Wisconsin River in the state of Wisconsin, United States. It is named for the Kickapoo Indians who occupied Wisconsin before the influx of white settlers in the early 19th century.
In archaeological terms, a projectile point is an object that was hafted to weapon that was capable of being thrown or projected, such as a spear, dart, or arrow, or perhaps used as a knife. They are thus different from weapons presumed to have been kept in the hand, such as axes and maces, and the stone mace or axe-heads often attached to them.
In prehistoric archaeology, scrapers are unifacial tools thought to have been used for hideworking and woodworking. Other scrapers include the so-called "side scrapers" or racloirs, which are made on the longest side of a flake, and notched scrapers, which have a cleft on either side that may have been used to attach them to something else.
