A Crown agency is a state-owned enterprise in the Canadian province of Ontario. This includes any board, commission, railway, public utility, university, factory, company or agency owned, controlled or operated by the Queen in Right of Ontario or the Government of Ontario, or under the authority of the Legislature or the Lieutenant Governor in Council. It is a Crown corporation, wholly owned by the Government of Canada, which reports to the Minister of Small Business and Tourism and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
Canadian Crown corporations are corporations wholly owned by the Crown and most are agents of the Crown with each ultimately accountable, through a relevant minister, to Parliament for the conduct of its affairs. As a result, Crown corporations represent more broadly a specific form of state-owned enterprise owned by the Sovereign of Canada. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario is a self-funding Crown agency which acts as the financial regulator for the province of Ontario, Canada. Established in 2016, FSRA officially succeeded its predecessor agencies – the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario – on June 8, 2019. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario operates at arms-length from the Government of Ontario, and reports to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario through the Minister of Finance.
Ontario Agricorp is a Crown agency of the Government of Ontario that delivers risk management programs and other services to Ontario's agriculture industry.
The Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages is a Minister of the Crown in the Canadian Cabinet. The minister is responsible for Canada's six regional development agencies: the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, and Western Economic Diversification Canada. Since 20 November 2019, the position has been held by Mélanie Joly of the Liberal Party.
