Dan Gardner (born 1958) is an American politician from the State of Oregon. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as Commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries from 2003 to 2008. [1] An electrician by profession,he was elected Commissioner of Labor and Industries in 2002 and reelected in 2006. He resigned in 2008 to take a job with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Washington,D.C. [2] [3]
Gardner worked as an electrician for 28 years. Prior to entering politics,he was active as a union leader.
Gardner entered politics by running for and winning a seat in the Oregon House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1996. He represented the 13th District until 2002. He served in the Democratic leadership as Assistant Democratic Leader and House Leader. [4]
In 2002,Gardner ran for and won the nonpartisan office of Commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. He was reelected without opposition in 2006. [5]
In 2008,Gardner considered running for Congress in Oregon's 5th congressional district,but chose not to run. [6] Instead,he took a position as a lobbyist for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Washington,D.C. He announced his resignation as Commissioner of Labor and Industries in March 2008 and left office on April 7. Governor Ted Kulongoski appointed Brad Avakian to replace him. [7]

Dennis Michael Richardson was an American attorney, businessman, and politician who served as the 26th Secretary of State of Oregon from 2017 until his death in 2019. Richardson was from Central Point, Oregon and served six terms in the Oregon House of Representatives as a member of the Republican Party. He represented House District 4, which included portions of Jackson and Josephine counties, and was the Republican nominee for Governor of Oregon in the 2014 election, losing to incumbent Democrat John Kitzhaber.

It is headed by the Commissioner of Labor and Industries, a nonpartisan, statewide elective office. The term of office is four years. The current Commissioner is Val Hoyle.
Katherine Brown is an American politician and attorney serving as the 38th governor of Oregon since 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, she served three terms as the state representative from the 13th district of the Oregon House of Representatives from 1991 to 1997, three terms as the state senator from the 21st district of the Oregon Senate from 1997 to 2009, three terms as majority leader of the Oregon Senate from 2003 to 2009, as well as two terms as Oregon Secretary of State from 2009 to 2015. Suzanne Marie Bonamici is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Oregon's 1st congressional district, a seat she was first elected to in a 2012 special election. The district includes most of Portland west of the Willamette River, as well as all of Yamhill, Columbia, Clatsop, and Washington counties.
Bradley Paul Avakian is an American politician who served as a Democrat in the Oregon House, the Oregon Senate, and as the state's nonpartisan elected Labor Commissioner.
Bruce Starr is an American politician and businessman in Oregon. A Republican, he served two terms in the Oregon House of Representatives before winning election to the Oregon State Senate in 2002. There he joined his father Senator Charles Starr and they became the first father-son team to serve at the same time in Oregon's Senate. Bruce had previously been a member of the Hillsboro City Council, and was re-elected to the Senate in 2006 and 2010, but lost a bid in 2012 to be the Oregon Labor Commissioner.
Ole P. Hoff was a Norwegian-American Republican politician and the first commissioner of labor in the U.S. state of Oregon. Hoff was the sole employee of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Inspector of Factories and Workshops when he was appointed commissioner after the bureau's creation by the state legislature on June 2, 1903. He served as Labor Commissioner until 1919, when he became the Oregon State Treasurer. He died in office on March 18, 1924.

Republican Dennis Richardson defeated Democrat Brad Avakian to become the first Republican elected to statewide office since 2002, and the first Republican Secretary of State since 1985, making this a historic election in Oregon.

Primaries for these seats were held on May 17, 2022. The elections coincided with the elections and primaries of other federal and state offices.
