Cambridge University Cricket Club,first recorded in 1817,is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match,the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket.
Samuel Moses James Woods was an Australian sportsman who represented both Australia and England at Test cricket,and appeared thirteen times for England at rugby union,including five times as captain. He also played at county level in England at both soccer and hockey. At cricket—his primary sport—he played over four hundred first-class matches in a twenty-four-year career. The majority of these matches were for his county side,Somerset,whom he captained from 1894 to 1906. A. A. Thomson described him thus:"Sammy ... radiated such elemental force in hard hitting,fast bowling and electrical fielding that he might have been the forerunner of Sir Learie Constantine."
Robert James Hamilton Lambert was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and a right-arm off spin bowler,he played 51 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1893 and 1930,including 23 first-class matches,captaining them on 13 occasions. He also played first-class cricket for London County and Woodbrook Club and Ground. On his death,the Wisden Cricketer's Almanack described him as the best all-rounder produced by Ireland.
Frank Ellis Woodhead was an English amateur first-class cricketer,who played five games of first-class cricket for Cambridge University and Yorkshire from 1889 to 1894.
William Nichols Roe was an English first-class cricketer who played for Somerset County Cricket Club and Cambridge University in the late 19th century. A right-handed batsman who could play aggressively,but with a sound defensive method,Roe was considered one of Somerset's leading batsmen of the era. He played without merit for Cambridge,and only achieved his Blue during his final year at the university.
Stephen Cox Newton was an English cricketer who represented,and captained,Somerset County Cricket Club in the late 19th century. During a 14-year first-class cricket career,he also represented Cambridge University,Middlesex and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Michael Herbert Anderson was an English cricketer who played four first-class cricket matches for Cambridge University Cricket Club and Free Foresters. His highest score of 60 came when playing for the Free Foresters in the match against the university side. He also played two Minor Counties Championship matches for Hertfordshire County Cricket Club.
John Philip Blake was an English first-class cricketer and Royal Marines officer. Blake played first-class cricket in the late 1930s for both Cambridge University and Hampshire. He later served in the Royal Marines during the Second World War,being posthumously decorated with the Military Cross.

Alan Robert Garofall is a former English cricketer. Garofall was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace.
Norman Michael McVicker was an English cricketer. Having failed to establish himself with either Lancashire or Derbyshire,where he had trialled,McVicker initially played county cricket at minor counties cricket level for Lincolnshire. His performances in minor counties cricket were noticed by Warwickshire,who signed him at the age of 28 in 1969. He played five seasons with Warwickshire,winning the 1972 County Championship and taking 300 first-class wickets. He was released by Warwickshire at the end of the 1973 season and subsequently played for Leicestershire for three seasons from 1974–1976,winning both the County Championship and Benson &Hedges Cup in 1975. He retired at the end of the 1976 season,but came out of retirement in 1977 to play one-day cricket for Leicestershire,before retiring again at the end of that season.
Edward John Craig is an English academic philosopher,editor of the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy,and former Knightbridge Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. He is also a former cricketer at first-class level:a right-handed batsman for Cambridge University and Lancashire.
