David Andrew Fitzgerald (born 30 November 1972) was an Australian first-class cricketer who played for the Southern Redbacks. He was a right-handed batsman and earned a reputation for grafting out long innings.
After starting his career with Western Australia, Fitzgerald moved to South Australia in 1995. He struggled early on for the Redbacks but began to find his feet in 1997-98 as an opening batsman and made two successive centuries to start the season.
In 1999-2000 he scored an unbeaten 111 against the touring Pakistanis. He carried his bat in the innings and became the first South Australian player in seven seasons to do so.

The South Australia men's cricket team, officially named the West End Redbacks, is an Australian men's professional first-class cricket team based in Adelaide, South Australia. The Redbacks play their home matches at Adelaide Oval and Karen Rolton Oval, they are the state cricket team for South Australia representing the state in the Sheffield Shield competition and the limited overs Marsh One-Day Cup. Their Marsh One-Day Cup uniform features a red body with black sleeves. They are known as the West End Redbacks due to a sponsorship agreement with West End. The Redbacks formerly competed in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, but were succeeded by the Adelaide Strikers in 2011 because this league was replaced with the Big Bash League.
The 2005–06 Australian cricket season took place from October 2005 to March 2006.
Callum James Ferguson is a former Australian cricketer and commentator who has represented Australia in all three forms of international cricket. He also represented South Australia in the JLT One-Day Cup. He was formerly the captain of the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League before being released at the end of the 2020–21 season
Ronald Arthur Hamence was a cricketer who played for South Australia and Australia. A short and compact right-handed batsman, Hamence excelled in getting forward to drive and had an array of attractive back foot strokes. Already the youngest Australian to play district cricket, he was also, from the death of Bill Brown in 2008 until his own death in 2010, the oldest surviving Australian Test cricketer.
Michael Klinger is an Australian former first-class cricketer, who held the record for the most runs scored in the Big Bash League when he retired in 2019.
Cameron James Borgas is a former Australian cricketer who played for the Southern Redbacks and Adelaide Strikers. He was a right-handed middle order batsman and has previously represented Australia at under 19 level. He also played A grade cricket for Sturt District Cricket Club.
David Andrew Warner is an Australian international cricketer and a former captain of the Australian national team in limited overs formats and a former Test vice-captain. A left-handed opening batsman, Warner is the first Australian cricketer in 132 years to be selected for the national team in any format without experience in first-class cricket. He is considered one of the best batsmen of this generation, and one of the greatest opening batsmen of all time across all three formats. He plays for New South Wales and Sydney Thunder in domestic cricket. Warner was a prominent member of the victorious Australian squad of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, the 2021 T20 World Cup, where he was the Player of the Tournament, and the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship by winning the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final and 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Aiden Craig Blizzard is a former Australian cricketer who played domestic cricket for Tasmania, South Australia, and Victoria. An aggressive left-handed batsman, he hit 89 from 38 balls on his Twenty20 debut for Victoria on New Years Day 2007. His innings included 8 sixes. In 2004 he toured India and Sri Lanka with the Australian Cricket Academy. He has also played for Rajshahi Rangers in Bangladesh's NCL T20 Bangladesh.
Tom Lexley William Cooper is an Australian–Dutch cricketer who played for South Australia in Australian domestic cricket and for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL). He is a right-handed middle order batsman and a right-arm off-spinner, and in addition to representing the Netherlands, he has represented Australia in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
James David Smith is an Australian former cricketer. A right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm off break bowler, he played first-class cricket for South Australia between 2007 and 2012. He scored a century against Tasmania in late 2009, but did not repeat the feat again at state level. He was released by South Australia at the end of the 2012–13 season. In all, he scored 1,272 runs in 27 first-class matches at an average of 26.50. He also appeared ten times in List A matches, and twice in Twenty20 competitions, making one Big Bash League appearance, for the Adelaide Strikers in late 2012.
Nathan Michael Lyon is an Australian international cricketer. He made his Test debut in 2011 and plays domestic cricket for New South Wales. Lyon is an off spin bowler and a lower-order right-handed batsman. Considered the most successful off-spin bowler for Australia, Lyon holds the record for the most Test wickets taken by an Australian off-spin bowler, passing Hugh Trumble's 141 wickets in 2015. In January 2021, Lyon played in his 100th Test match during Australia's series against India. As of July 2023, Lyon is Australia's third highest test wicket taker of all time and ranks eighth among all international players with 496. Lyon was a member of the Australian team that won the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final.
Martin Peter Faull is a former Australian cricketer, who regularly played for South Australia during the 1990s. Born in Darwin, Northern Territory, Faull played cricket for South Australia at both under-16 and under-19 level, as well as for the state's Colts and Second XI sides.
Chadd James Sayers is a former Australian cricketer from South Australia. After spending several years in the South Australian Grade Cricket League as one of the best pace bowlers in the state, Sayers began playing first-class cricket for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield in 2011. He played matches for Australia A from 2013, and played his only Test for Australia in the final Test of the 2017–18 tour of South Africa at Johannesburg, after years of near misses.
Alexander Ian Ross is an Australian cricketer. The son of a cricket coach, Ross started playing domestic cricket for South Australia in 2012, having moved to the state in 2009 with his father. He began to rise to prominence in the 2014–15 season when, after improved form in both first-class and List A cricket, he began playing for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. In his first match of BBL|05 he scored 65 runs off 31 balls, making excellent use of the sweep shot and earning the moniker "sweepologist". He currently represents South Australia in first-class and one-day cricket and plays for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.
Jake Scott Lehmann is an Australian cricketer who plays for South Australia. He is the eldest son of former Australian coach Darren Lehmann. Well known for his moustache, Lehmann began his first-class career in the 2014–15 season and enjoyed early success, scoring a double century in his second season. He began playing for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League in 2015 and hit a match-winning six against the Hobart Hurricanes in the first ball of his career and the last ball of the innings.
Jake Weatherald is an Australian cricketer. Originally from Darwin in the Northern Territory, he is an opening batsman who plays for South Australia in both first-class and one-day cricket and plays for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. He had a breakout season in 2015–16, making his first-class debut for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and scoring two half-centuries in the final. He has since had contracts with both South Australia and the Strikers in every season.
Alex Tyson Carey is an Australian international cricketer. Formerly an Australian rules footballer, he is currently a wicket-keeper who plays for the Australian national team in test match and one day formats. In domestic cricket, he plays for South Australia and Adelaide Strikers. He was the captain of the Greater Western Sydney Giants in 2010, but when they joined the Australian Football League in 2012, he was left out of the squad and returned to his home state of South Australia, where he began to play domestic cricket.
David Malcolm Kerr Grant is an Australian cricketer from North Adelaide, South Australia. He is a right-handed batsman and bowls right-arm medium-fast, basing his bowling style on former Test cricketer Glenn McGrath. Grant has played internationally for Australia's national under-19 team and currently plays domestically for South Australia.
The 2017–18 Sheffield Shield season was the 116th season of the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia. It started on 26 October 2017 and finished on 27 March 2018. The opening round of matches were played as day/night fixtures and the first three rounds of matches took place before the Ashes series. Victoria were the defending champions.
