Career
Yurkovich began self-publishing in 1996 following receipt of a grant from Peter Laird's ( Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ) acclaimed Xeric Foundation. Titles Yurkovich has written and illustrated include Altercations, Haunted, Death by Chocolate, The S.H.O.P., and The Broccoli Agenda. Largely out of print, Yurkovich's early work has been published in collected volumes by Top Shelf Productions as Less Than Heroes (2004) and Death by Chocolate: Redux (2007) and the self-published Altercations: Critical Super-Human Encounters of the 20th Century (2014).
In May 2006, Yurkovich began work on the Bill Mantlo Project (a.k.a. The Bill Mantlo Benefit Book), as an homage to Bill Mantlo, whom Yurkovich regards as a major influence. The retrospective, published June 2007 by Sleeping Giant, delves into Mantlo's life and career. It includes interviews with many of Mantlo's former industry colleagues (among them Marv Wolfman, Ed Hannigan, Tony Isabella, and George Pérez) and an introduction by Mantlo's brother Michael Mantlo. Additionally, the project features previously unpublished fiction by Mantlo, some of which was adapted into sequential form by Yurkovich. Yurkovich produced the project as a benefit book; all proceeds were donated to Bill's brother and caregiver Michael Mantlo, to help toward the costs of maintaining Bill's daily care. An updated print-on-demand edition was released in 2014.
Other projects include a self-published photo graphic novel series, Nocturne (2010-2011). In January 2012 Yurkovich announced that Five Years, a 350-page graphic novel, was in development and scheduled for a summer 2014 release. The project remains uncompleted. In 2017, Yurkovich wrote the introduction to the Bill Mantlo White Tiger (Hector Ayala) stories collected in volume 2 of the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu Omnibus published by Marvel Entertainment. Yurkovich has written two prose novels, Glass Onion (2014) and Banana Seat Summer (2018). In 2023 he began serialization of the novel, New Santa: Crimson Red on the Amazon Kindle Vella platform, and the anthology series, Capes and Masks: Superhuman Tales With a Punch. In 2017 Yurkovich, along with author/publisher Dianne Pearce, formed Devil's Party Press, LLC, an independent publishing house that specializes in publishing authors over 40 years of age. Yurkovich serves as co-editor and designer. The company has won several state and national awards including the 2018 Best Short Story Collection by the National Federation of Press Women. In 2020 Pearce and Yurkovich formed Gravelight Press as the horror imprint of Devil's Party Press. In 2024, both Devil's Party and Gravelight became imprints of a newly formed company, Current Words Publishing.
A graphic novel is a long-form work of sequential art. The term graphic novel is often applied broadly, including fiction, non-fiction, and anthologized work, though this practice is highly contested by comics scholars and industry professionals. It is, at least in the United States, typically distinct from the term comic book, which is generally used for comics periodicals and trade paperbacks.
Alternative comics or independent comics cover a range of American comics that have appeared since the 1980s, following the underground comix movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Alternative comics present an alternative to mainstream superhero comics which in the past have dominated the American comic book industry. Alternative comic books span a wide range of genres, artistic styles, and subjects.
The Micronauts are comic books featuring a group of characters based on the Mego Micronauts toy line. The first title was published by American company Marvel Comics in 1979, with both original characters and characters based on the toys. Marvel published two Micronauts series, mostly written by Bill Mantlo, until 1986, well after the toy line was cancelled in 1980. In the 2000s, Image Comics and Devil's Due Publishing each briefly published their own Micronauts series. Byron Preiss Visual Publications also published three paperback novels based on the Micronauts. In 2016, IDW Publishing published a new comic book series. A live-action film version of the Micronauts was in development by Hasbro Studios and Paramount in 2015. In May 2023, Marvel re-acquired the licensing rights to publish The Micronauts.
Boleslav William Felix Robert Sienkiewicz is an American artist known for his work in comic books—particularly for Marvel Comics' New Mutants, Moon Knight, and Elektra: Assassin. He is the co-creator of the character David Haller / Legion, the basis for the FX television series Legion.
William Timothy Mantlo is an American comic book writer, primarily at Marvel Comics. He is best known for his work on two licensed toy properties whose adventures occurred in the Marvel Universe: Micronauts and Rom, as well as co-creating the characters Rocket Raccoon and Cloak and Dagger. An attorney who worked as a public defender, Mantlo was the victim of a hit-and-run accident in 1992 and has been in institutional care ever since.

The name of the company is a pun on "drawing", "quarterly", and the practice of hanging, drawing and quartering. Initially it specialized in underground and alternative comics, but has since expanded into classic reprints and translations of foreign works. Drawn & Quarterly was the company's flagship quarterly anthology during the 1990s.

Jimmy Gownley is an American comic book writer/artist best known for his award winning comic book Amelia Rules. He grew up in the small town of Girardville, Pennsylvania and started to write and draw his own comics at an early age. His first published work was Shades of Gray, which he self-published. Two issues, self-distributed in an edition of about 100 copies, were published in 1988-89 while the artist was still in high school. Twelve additional issues, starting over with #1 (1993) and titled Shades of Gray Comics and Stories, had national distribution in the low thousands of copies, with color covers and black and white interior art. Gownley called his publishing company Lady Luck, Ltd.
