Essex County is a county in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Massachusetts. At the 2020 census, the total population was 809,829, making it the third-most populous county in the state, and the seventy-eighth-most populous in the country. It is part of the Greater Boston area. The largest city in Essex County is Lynn. The county was named after the English county of Essex. It has two traditional county seats: Salem and Lawrence. Prior to the dissolution of the county government in 1999, Salem had jurisdiction over the Southern Essex District, and Lawrence had jurisdiction over the Northern Essex District, but currently these cities do not function as seats of government. However, the county and the districts remain as administrative regions recognized by various governmental agencies, which gathered vital statistics or disposed of judicial case loads under these geographic subdivisions, and are required to keep the records based on them. The county has been designated the Essex National Heritage Area by the National Park Service.

The Adams Academy was a school for boys in Quincy, Massachusetts founded by President John Adams, who outlined his wishes for a school to be built on the site of John Hancock's birthplace in an 1822 deed of trust. Opened in 1872, the Academy operated as a college preparatory school for just over three decades, ultimately closing in 1908. Today, the property is still owned by Adams' original trust, the Adams Temple and School Fund, and its landmark Ware and Van Brunt building has been leased to the Quincy Historical Society for several decades.

Maynard High School is the only public high school in Maynard, Massachusetts, United States. The 2015–16 enrollment is 485 students for grades 9 through 12. A new high school building opened for the 2013–14 school year. The high school contained the eighth grade when the new building opened. In fall of 2017, the eighth grade moved back to Fowler Middle School. The high school was one of only three schools in Massachusetts awarded Leader Status by the Collaborative for High Performance Schools for being a green building. The school has a 13:1 student teacher ratio. The school mascot is the tiger. The High School's campus is adjacent to the Green Meadow School and Fowler School. In 2022 the school was ranked as #25 best in Greater Boston and #10 for "Bang for Your Housing Buck" by Boston Magazine.
Fitchburg High School is a public high school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The school is part of the Fitchburg Public Schools district.
