Dekema Records is a record label that first achieved notice in the 1990s for releasing the EP "Stripped" by the seminal grunge rock group the Fire Ants. Dekema used music producer Jack Endino to record the band at Word of Mouth studios in 1992. Endino is best known for producing "Bleach" by Nirvana and his work with Sub Pop artists such as Mudhoney and Soundgarden.

The Fire Ants were a "super group" that formed during the big major label-signing era of Seattle bands. Members of the band included Brian and Kevin Wood (brothers of Andrew Wood, formerly of Mother Love Bone), Chad Channing (formerly of Nirvana) and Dan McDonald (former bassist for Native Messiah and Strait Face). Prior to the Fire Ants, Kevin and Andrew Wood both performed in the band Malfunkshun.

In 2015, "Stripped" was remastered by Jack Endino and released as a Deluxe Edition with an additional nine demo tracks included.

Label history

Dekema Records was founded by Edward Dekema in 1991 and based out of Woodinville, WA, a suburb of Seattle. Ed was the executive producer for the early 1990s releases by the Fire Ants, Moonshine and Johnnie Bravo. In addition to working with Jack Endino, the label also released recordings produced by Marty Jourard, formerly of the 1980s new wave group the Motels.

With the Lights Out is a box set by the American rock band Nirvana released in November 2004. It contains three CDs and one DVD of previously rare or unreleased material, including B-sides, demos, and rehearsal and live recordings. The title comes from the lyrics from Nirvana's 1991 single "Smells Like Teen Spirit". The box set was planned for release in 2001, but was delayed by a legal battle with Courtney Love, the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain. Hype! attempts to dispel some of the myths of the genre promulgated by media hype by depicting the grunge subculture from the point of view of people who were active in the scene. The film generally portrays this mythos in a satirical way while acknowledging that it was media hype that helped propel some of these obscure bands to fame.

Jack Endino American producer and musician

Jack Endino is an American producer and musician based in Seattle, Washington. Long associated with Seattle label Sub Pop and the grunge movement, Endino worked on seminal albums from bands including Mudhoney, Soundgarden and Nirvana. He was also the guitarist for Seattle band Skin Yard, which was active between 1985 and 1992. Endino currently manages a studio in Seattle called Soundhouse Recording.

Beautiful Son

"Beautiful Son" is a song by American alternative rock band Hole, written collectively by frontwoman Courtney Love, lead guitarist Eric Erlandson and drummer Patty Schemel. The song was released as the band's fourth single in April 1993 on the European label City Slang. To coincide with the song's lyrics, Love used a photograph of her husband, Kurt Cobain, at age 7 as the single's artwork.

Gruntruck American rock band

Gruntruck is an American rock band formed in 1989 in Seattle, Washington, by vocalist Ben McMillan and drummer Norman Scott, both previously from early Seattle sound pioneers Skin Yard. While in Skin Yard, Norman also briefly joined Soundgarden, and collaborated with Chris Cornell on a lesser-known band, the low frequency power trio Bass Truck. His own band Lace Weeper have become a rock staple in the Irish music scene, gaining good critical reception. Two of Matt's previous projects were signed to Dekema Records.
