Demon's Lair is a fantasy role-playing game created in 1997 by Lasalion Games.
Demon's Lair is a medieval fantasy role-playing game set in the world of Terrania, which has six continents, each with a tower at the center. The lands are inhabited by humans¸ elves¸ and dwarves as well as other races such as dakhans. [1] It uses a 3-die step system for combat (one die used for attacking, one for defending, and one for spells and mental abilities).
Demon's Lair was designed by Dan Hensel, Al Seeger, Dave Schmitz, and Gino Holland, and was published as two books by indie publisher Lasalion Games in 1997. [1] Lasalion also published three supplements and four scenarios before going out of business in June 2004. [2]
Ron Edwards, writing for The Forge, thought the rules resembled "a hyperactive, uncritical Arduin Grimoire , peppered with empty character quotes and attempted giggles, even including some rules for whether a character suddenly has to take a piss in the middle of combat. Character creation is diverse to the point of being scattered and bizarre, which one 'super-class' which only one player per group may take, as an example of the kind of free-associative logic that seems to have underlaid this set of the rules." However, Edwards found the section of information for the gamemaster "astounding". It gets the definition of 'theme' right on the first try, which is far more than I can say for some of the most well-known games and authors in the hobby. It includes extensive and applicable advice for running geographically-separated characters at the same time and for cutting scenes, and it nails the Lumpley Principle on the nose. If this section were presented as a PDF for sale, I'd buy it in a shot. It's well worth the price of the whole game." [3]
