The Colorado State Rams are the athletic teams that represent Colorado State University (CSU). Colorado State's athletic teams compete along with 8 other institutions in the Mountain West Conference, which is an NCAA Division I conference and sponsors Division I FBS football. The Conference was formed in 1999, splitting from the former 16-member Western Athletic Conference. CSU has won nine MWC tournament championships and won or shared 11 regular season titles. Rams football teams won or shared the Mountain West title in 1999, 2000 and 2002.

There is also a Major League Soccer (MLS) team based in the Denver metro area, but they do not play their home games in the city of Denver and is located in nearby Commerce City.
Thomas Martin "Tad" Boyle is an American college basketball coach who is the men's head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes of the Big 12 Conference. He was named the 18th coach in Colorado men's basketball history on April 19, 2010, replacing Jeff Bzdelik. Boyle was named as an assistant coach for USA Basketball a second time in 2015. He played collegiately at Kansas under coach Ted Owens and Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown.

The UTSA Roadrunners men's basketball team represents the University of Texas at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, US in NCAA Division I as a member of the American Athletic Conference from the 2023–24 season. Originally competing as an NCAA independent in 1981–82, the Roadrunners moved to the Trans-America Athletic Conference in 1986–87, then moved to the Southland Conference in 1991–92, then moved to the Western Athletic Conference in 2012–2013, then moved to Conference USA in 2013–2014 where they remained for the next 10 seasons. UTSA plays its home games at the on-campus Convocation Center, and is coached by Austin Claunch.
Mary Camille "Kamie" Ethridge is a former American basketball player and current basketball coach. She was an All-American point guard at the University of Texas at Austin and won a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. She is considered one of the best women's basketball players in history and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. Ethridge is currently the head coach at Washington State University.

Craig Francis Smith is an American college basketball coach who is the head coach for the Utah Utes men's team of the Big 12 Conference. He served as an assistant for Tim Miles at four schools – Mayville State, North Dakota State, Colorado State, and Nebraska. Smith was also the head coach at Mayville State from 2004 to 2007, at South Dakota from 2014 to 2018, and at Utah State from 2018 to 2021.

She played professional basketball in the Women's National Basketball League before becoming a head coach at Regis University. In 2003, she was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
