Detroit techno is a type of techno music that generally includes the first techno productions by Detroit-based artists during the 1980s and early 1990s. Prominent Detroit techno artists include Juan Atkins, Eddie Fowlkes, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Kevin Saunderson, Blake Baxter, Drexciya, Mike Banks, and Robert Hood.
Movement Electronic Music Festival is an annual electronic dance music event held in the birthplace of Techno, Detroit, each Memorial Day weekend since 2006. Previous electronic music festivals held at Hart Plaza on Memorial Day weekend include Detroit Electronic Music Festival (2000–2002), Movement (2003–2004) and Fuse-In (2005). The four different festival names reflect completely separate and distinct producers, brands and directions. All of these festivals presented performances by musicians and DJs that emphasized the progressive qualities of the culture surrounding electronic music including the celebration of Detroit being the birthplace of the popular electronic music subgenre Techno.
Derrick May, also known as Mayday and Rhythim Is Rhythim, is an electronic musician from Belleville, Michigan, United States. May is credited with pioneering techno music in the 1980s along with collaborators Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, commonly known as the Belleville Three.
Carl Craig is an American electronic music producer, DJ, and founder of the record label Planet E Communications. He is known as a leading figure and pioneer in the second wave of Detroit techno artists during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He has recorded under his given name in addition to a variety of aliases, including Psyche, BFC, and Innerzone Orchestra.
Nasenbluten were an Australian electronic music group, formed in Newcastle in 1992. The group was made up of Aaron Lubinski, David Melo, and Mark Newlands, and released six studio albums before disbanding in 2001. They have been described as a significant influence on the breakcore genre.

Wired Records is a record label based in Berlin. It was founded by Heidi Mortenson in 2005 when releasing her debut album 'Wired Stuff' with funding money from the Danish Arts Foundation. The label started out as a series of live concerts and DJ events called Wired Nights which were held at various venues in Berlin between 2004 and 2005. The events took form as a music playground for spontanity and testing of new ideas, and were described as fun, chaotic and original with surprise guest appearances.

Octave One is a group of American techno musicians composed of siblings Lenny Burden and Lawrence Burden, sometimes associated with their three other brothers, Lorne Burden, Lynell Burden and Lance Burden. In 1989, The band debuted on Derrick May's Transmat record label with the single "I Believe". In 1990, "I Believe" was included on the compilation Techno 2: The Next Generation. Also In 1990, with their brother Lynell, they formed the record label 430 West Records to release the vinyl record Octave One "The Octivation EP". Octave One have remixed recordings for Massive Attack, Joey Negro, DJ Rolando, Steve Bug, John Thomas, The Trammps, Rhythm is Rhythm, and Inner City. In 2000, Octave One released their most commercially successful recording, "Blackwater". In 2002, "Blackwater" was remixed by the band with a reworked live string arrangement performed by the Urban Soul Orchestra in London, England. The single was re-released by Concept Music, Ministry of Sound/Voidcom (Germany), Vendetta Records (Spain), and Tinted (Australia) in the same year. It peaked at #47 and #69 in the UK Singles Chart.
Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) characterized by a repetitive four on the floor beat which is generally produced for use in a continuous DJ set. The central rhythm is often in common time (4/4), while the tempo typically varies between 120 and 150 beats per minute (bpm). Artists may use electronic instruments such as drum machines, sequencers, and synthesizers, as well as digital audio workstations. Drum machines from the 1980s such as Roland's TR-808 and TR-909 are highly prized, and software emulations of such retro instruments are popular.
Clown & Sunset was an independent record label founded by Nicolas Jaar in 2009. It was part of Clown & Sunset Aesthetics, an interdisciplinary production house founded by Jaar and film producer Noah Kraft. The label was shut down in August 2013 after which Jaar founded his imprint Other People.

Motech Records is a Techno record label founded in 2002 and is operated by producer / DJ Franki Juncaj commonly known as DJ 3000. It is based in Detroit, Michigan though also has operations in the Netherlands.
Fifth Wall Records is an American independent record label based in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 2013 by producers Divvorce and Hound Scales, Fifth Wall releases primarily house music and techno. In December 2013, electronic music magazine Resident Advisor named Fifth Wall its "Label of the Month." As of January 2015, Fifth Wall had released fifteen vinyl 12" records and one charity compilation. Its name is a reference to the fourth wall in theater and other artistic media.
Exist Dance was a Los Angeles based record label started by Tom Chasteen and Michael Kandel in 1991. Releasing the music of Tranquility Bass, Eden Transmission, Merge, Freaky Chakra, and more, they were part of the early development of trance, techno, breaks, and chill out music on the West Coast of the United States.
