Major Indoor Soccer League (2001–2008)

The Major Indoor Soccer League was the top professional indoor soccer league in the United States. The league was a member of both the United States Soccer Federation and FIFA. The MISL had replaced the NPSL which folded in 2001. According to MISL.net, the league ceased operations as of May 31, 2008. "We are considering structural changes that will bring us greater efficiencies, while also allowing long term growth and expansion of the League", said John Hantz, former Chairman of the MISL, and Owner/Operator of the Detroit Ignition. All the teams from MISL went to the new indoor leagues: NISL, PASL and the XSL. The NISL and XSL used the same playing rules as the MISL.

The Rochester Lancers are a indoor soccer team in the Major Indoor Soccer League and the Major Arena Soccer League. The team is named in honor of the Rochester Lancers of the North American Soccer League. The team was active from November 2011 through March 2015. In July 2015, the team cited a sharp increase in the cost of insurance to more than double the team's payroll costs and announced the end of the franchise. A new version of the team contested the 2018-19 Major Arena Soccer League 2 season; for 2019-20 the team moved up to Division 1 playing in the MASL.

Richard L. Bancells was the long time Head Athletic Trainer for the Major League Baseball (MLB) Baltimore Orioles. Bancells has been widely credited with helping Cal Ripken Jr achieve his record-breaking streak of 2,632 consecutive games played. In 2011, he was elected to the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame. On October 1, 2017, shortly before the Orioles final game of the 2017, it was announced that Richie Bancells was retiring at the end of the season. At the time of his retirement, he was the longest tenured member of the Orioles organization.

Florida Tropics SC is a professional soccer club based in Lakeland, Florida. They are owned by Central Florida Sports Ventures, LLC, led by Dr. Panos Iakovidis, and former USL commissioner and Rochester Rhinos owner Chris Economides.
