The Divizia A is the second level of the Romanian women's professional handball system. The league comprises twenty nine teams.

History

This sport was first played in Romania in 1920. After a visit in Germany, a few physical education teachers introduced this sport in their classes. The Divizia A was founded in 1933 (in 11 players) and in 1958 in the current format with 7 players. The current champions are Gloria Buzău (Seria A) and Minaur Baia Mare (Seria B). [1]

At the end of the season the first place from both series promoted to Liga Națională, the 2nd and 3rd places from both series played a promotion play-off together with 11th and 12th place from Liga Națională.

The 2018–19 Divizia A is the 61st season of the Romanian men's handball second league. A total of 24 teams contested the league, being divided in four series, Seria A, Seria B, Seria C and Seria D. At the end of the season the first two places from each series will qualify for the Divizia A promotion play-off.

At the end of the season the first place from both series promoted to Liga Națională, the 2nd and 3rd places from both series played a promotion play-off together with 11th and 12th place from Liga Națională.
