Dragons' Den was an Irish television series, presented by Richard Curran, based on the worldwide series Dragons' Den . It first aired in February 2009 and ran for eight series, until 2017. [1]
The first episode was broadcast on 19 February 2009.
The third season aired on RTÉ One with Norah Casey as the new Dragon. Toward the end of the season, episodes showed the Dragons on tour visiting their past investments.[ citation needed ]
For the fourth season, [2] Seán O'Sullivan, co-founder of Kinsale-based Avego Ltd, replaced Seán Gallagher. [3] A live, interactive Sixth Dragon Game was developed to be played whilst watching the show, in which viewers are able to decide if they're "in" or "out" as the pitches unfold. The Sixth Dragon Game is the first live interactive game for an Irish TV show.[ citation needed ]
The eighth series of Dragons Den included three female Dragons for the first time. [4] Chanelle McCoy, wife of Tony McCoy, was new to the Den that year, replacing Seán O'Sullivan.[ citation needed ]

Former Dragon Seán Gallagher was a candidate in the 2011 presidential election, coming in second to Michael D. Higgins. Three current or former Dragons, Peter Casey, Seán Gallagher and Gavin Duffy, were candidates in the 2018 presidential election, [6] coming in second, third and sixth (last), respectively.

Michael Murphy is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays as a full forward for Glenswilly and, formerly, for the Donegal county team, which he captained from December 2010 until his retirement from inter-county football in November 2022. His predecessors as Donegal players, such as Manus Boyle, Brendan Devenney and Anthony Molloy, regard Murphy as the county's greatest ever footballer. The 2018 Irish presidential election took place on Friday, 26 October, between 7.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. President Michael D. Higgins, who was elected in 2011 with the support of the Labour Party, was seeking re-election to a second term as an Independent. This was the first time since the 1966 election that an incumbent president faced a contest for a second term. Higgins was re-elected on the first count with nearly 56% of the vote, becoming the first president since Éamon de Valera to win a second term in a contested election. He was inaugurated for his second term on 11 November.
Seán Gallagher is an Irish businessman and former reality television personality. He was a co-founder in 2000 of Smarthomes, which after initial success, failed in 2008–2010, and Gallagher departed in 2010–11. He was a panellist on RTÉ's Dragons' Den from 2009 to 2011. Gallagher was an active member of Fianna Fáil for 30 years, from 1981 to 2011, and sat on its National Executive twice. He spent much of his career before Smarthomes working in Fianna Fáil, and in the Irish public service. Gallagher ran as an independent candidate in the 2011 presidential election, finishing second to Michael D. Higgins. He ran again in the 2018 presidential election, finishing third.

RTÉ One is an Irish free-to-air flagship television channel owned and operated by RTÉ. It is the most-popular and most-watched television channel in the country and was launched as Telefís Éireann on 31 December 1961, it was renamed RTÉ in 1966, and it was renamed as RTÉ 1 upon the launch of RTÉ 2 in 1978. It is funded partly by the government's licence fee; the remainder of the funding is provided by commercial advertising. Martin 'Marty' O'Reilly is an Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler who plays for Seán Mac Cumhaills of Ballybofey and also, formerly, for the Donegal county football team.
Peter Joseph Casey is an Irish entrepreneur and unsuccessful political candidate. He is the founder and former Executive Chairman of Claddagh Resources, a global recruitment and executive search business. From 2012 to 2014 he was a panellist on the RTÉ television programme Dragons' Den, in which he was one of the investors adjudicating business plan pitches.
Gavin Duffy is an Irish entrepreneur and businessman who was a former part owner of the HRM Group of Companies, one of Ireland's largest recruitment companies. Duffy is a regular conference speaker at business events in Ireland. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2018 presidential election.
