Dresden & Johnston are an American DJ and production duo composed of Dave Dresden of Gabriel & Dresden and Mikael Johnston of Mephisto Odyssey.

History

Dave Dresden is the co-founder of the dance music acts Gabriel & Dresden and Motorcycle, remixer for acts like Jewel and The Killers, and the co-author of the dance floor hits As the Rush Comes, and Tracking Treasure Down. [1] Mikael Johnston is the founding member of the Warner Bros. Records act Mephisto Odyssey who were pivotal in defining the nascent San Francisco house sound. [2] [3] Johnston has also collaborated remixed and engineered for artists such as Jane’s Addiction, Static-X, Los Amigos Invisibles, Soul Coughing, I Am the World Trade Center, Smash Mouth, The Matches, The Sounds and Goapele. [4]

Johnston and Dresden had known each other for over a decade and started collaborating once Gabriel & Dresden had disbanded. [5] The partnership was announced in February 2009 on Beatport. [6] Their first work together were remixes of Lily Allen's song "The Fear" followed by Nadia Ali's "Love Story", both topped Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Chart. [7] [8] This was followed by remixes for BT, JD Webb, The Crystal Method, Owl City, Morgan Page, Enrique Iglesias and Dev. [5] [9] Their remix of Enrique Iglesias' "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" reached number one on Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart. [10]

Their first original production was "Keep Faith" featuring vocals by Mezo Riccio. Released in March 2010, the song charted at number 10 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart. [11] Around the same time, remixes of their collaboration "That Day" with singer-songwriter Nadia Ali were released on compilation albums. In August 2010, the duo released their EP titled "The Cove/Redhead" and in November 2010 their second single "Metaphonix". Their first studio album tentatively titled High and Low is rumored for a 2011 release.[ citation needed ] The album contains collaborations with Morgan Page, Jan Burton, Skylar Grey, Nadia Ali, Mezo Riccio and David Penner of Andain. iiO American dance music act

iiO was a New York City-based dance music act composed of singer and songwriter Nadia Ali and record producer Markus Moser. The group gained prominence for its 2001 single, "Rapture", which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, and peaked within the top ten of the charts in the United Kingdom. Following the success of "Rapture", iiO released several singles and the studio album Poetica in 2005. The album reached number 17 on the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart.

The group went on to release a number of self-released singles until doing tenures at City of Angels and Warner Bros. Records from the mid-1990s into the early 2000s. Mephisto Odyssey are also credited with being the only group to officially remix Jane's Addiction for the maxi single "So What!". The group released many singles and remixes as well as an EP and two albums during the life of the band. This included the song "Crash" which was co-written with Wayne Static of Static-X and "Some Kinda Freak" which was featured in the horror film Hostel.

Andain was a San Francisco-based electronic music duo, originally formed in 2000. They broke through in 2002 after being discovered by DJ Tiësto, reaching clubbers worldwide with their singles "Summer Calling" in 2002 and "Beautiful Things" in 2003. The band members initially included producer Josh Gabriel, singer and songwriter Mavie Marcos, and guitarist David Penner, before the group disbanded in 2006. Andain returned again in 2011 as Josh and Mavie, making their comeback with the single "Promises". The successive year saw the release of the band's first and only full-length album, on September 12, 2012, following a year of touring and performing. Andain was eventually concluded in 2014.

Their 2006 single, "Is It Love?", reached the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart.

Gabriel & Dresden is an American electronic music duo comprising Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden, formed in San Francisco, California. They collaborated from 2001 to 2008, then again from 2011 to the present. During that time, they have created numerous hit songs and remixes, some of which are considered classics. They won the coveted Winter Music Conference IDMA award for "Best American DJ" twice, in 2007 and 2008, the latter time on the same day that the group split up. The pair reunited in early 2011 and proceeded on a reunion tour, which began at Ruby Skye in San Francisco on March 4, 2011. They produced three studio albums together: self-titled album (2006), The Only Road (2017) which was released after an 11-year hiatus period, and Remedy (2020).

It was released on June 16, 2009 through Columbia Records and Music World Entertainment exclusively to Walmart and J&R, although it was later made available through other retailers. Consisting of two discs, the album features music videos and dance remixes of singles from her third studio album I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008). Above and Beyoncé: Video Collection & Dance Mixes peaked at number thirty-five on the US Billboard 200, and received generally favorable reviews from music critics. Mikael Johnston is a musician, producer and remixer best known for his work in electronic dance music. Johnston is a founding member of the San Francisco house music group Mephisto Odyssey which originated in the early 1990s. After a string of successful singles on his own label imprint Mephisto Records, Johnston signed with progressive west coast label City of Angels, home to future break beat kings The Crystal Method. Johnston's notoriety in the major label music industry began in the late 1990s with his collaboration with Jane's Addiction on a series of remixes for their maxi single "So What" under the name Deep Red. A recording contract with Warner Bros. Records soon followed. While at Warner Johnston worked with Nu Metal act Static-X on a remix for their single Push It. This eventually led to their collaboration on the crossover alternative song, "Crash" which later became a video directed by Len Wiseman that appeared on MTV and in the film Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Johnston's other projects include, Deep Red, Seraphim and The Swerve.

On December 1, 2010, the Morgan Page remix of "Fantasy" was nominated in the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical category at the 53rd Grammy Awards.
