The Eastern Kentucky Colonels men's basketball team is a college basketball team at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), located in Richmond, Kentucky, United States. The Colonels are members of the ASUN Conference, which they joined in 2021 after having been members of the Ohio Valley Conference since that league's founding in 1948. Home games are played at Alumni Coliseum, located on EKU's campus. The team last played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2014. The Colonels are coached by A.W. Hamilton, who came to EKU in 2018 after previous head coach Dan McHale was fired after 3 seasons.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers are the athletic teams that represent Western Kentucky University (WKU), located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the NCAA Division I ranks, competing in the Conference USA (C-USA) since the 2014–15 academic year. Much of the success came during the long tenure of head coach Roy Kidd from 1964 to 2002. In 1990, Eastern honored Kidd by naming the school's football stadium Roy Kidd Stadium. Eastern Kentucky's football team was able to secure 31 consecutive winning seasons before finally posting a losing season record in 2009.

They finished the season 11–20, 5–13 in OVC play to finish in a three-way tie for ninth place. They failed to make the OVC tournament for the third consecutive season.
The Weaver Gymnasium, formally known as the Weaver Health Building, is an on-campus gymnasium on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. It was opened in 1931 and was named for Charles F. Weaver who served for twelve years on EKU's Board of Regents and established two of the first financial awards at EKU. The building, which houses a pool, gymnasium and dance studios, was the third home of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels men's basketball team, replacing a building known as "The Barn." During their time in Weaver, the Maroons had a record of 225–51 overall and reached the NAIA Men's Basketball Championships twice, in 1945 and 1946, and the 1953 and 1959 NCAA tournament, as well as winning two regular season Ohio Valley Conference titles and two conference tournaments. The last Maroons game held in Weaver was a 96–78 loss to the Louisville Cardinals. The building was replaced in 1963 with the Alumni Coliseum, with a revenge win against the same Cardinals. The building now serves as a site for campus fitness and recreation.
Archibald William Hamilton is an American basketball coach and former player. He is the head men's basketball coach at Eastern Kentucky University, a position he has held since 2018. Hamilton served as the head basketball coach at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia, from 2011 to 2017. Born in Georgetown, Kentucky, he played college basketball for Wake Forest and Marshall, where he graduated in 2005.

The Colonels, led by first-year head coach A. W. Hamilton, played their home games at McBrayer Arena within Alumni Coliseum as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 13–18 overall, 6–12 in OVC play, finishing in a four-way tie for sixth place. Tiebreakers worked against them, so they failed to qualify to play in the OVC tournament for the fourth consecutive season.

The following day, Garry McPeek was named the acting head coach.

The 2022 ASUN women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the ASUN Conference held from October 27 through November 4, 2022. The tournament was hosted at campus sites, with the #1 seed hosting two Quarterfinals and one Semifinal while the #2 seed hosted the other two Quarterfinals and Semifinal. The highest remaining seed hosted the final. The eight-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Lipscomb Bison were the defending tournament champions, and unable to defend their title, losing to Central Arkansas in a penalty-shoot out in the Quarterfinals. The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles won the tournament after defeating Liberty 4–3 in a penalty shoot-out in the final. It was Florida Gulf Coast's seventh overall title and first since 2017. All of the Eagle's titles have come under coach Jim Blankenship. As tournament champions, Florida Gulf Coast earned the ASUN's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I women's soccer tournament.
