Edmund Montague was the Acting Governor of Fort St George from 17 October 1709 to 18 November 1709.
On the death of Gulston Addison,the then President of Madras on 17 October 1709,William Fraser was appointed as the President of Madras. However,as Fraser was then the Governor of Fort St David,Edmund Montague was made Acting Governor of Fort St George for about a month. His tenure was devoid of events. The factors tried to persuade Captain Seaton back to England and failed. Fraser arrived in Madras on 2 November and addressed the Council of Fort St George on 3 November.
Fort St. George is a fortress at the coastal city of Chennai,India. Founded in 1639,it was the first English fortress in India. The construction of the fort provided the impetus for further settlements and trading activity,in what was originally an uninhabited land. Thus,it is a feasible contention to say that the city evolved around the fortress. The fort currently houses the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly and other official buildings.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Council was the upper house of the former bicameral legislature of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It began its existence as Madras Legislative Council,the first provincial legislature for Madras Presidency. It was initially created as an advisory body in 1861,by the British colonial government. It was established by the Indian Councils Act 1861,enacted in the British parliament in the aftermath of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Its role and strength were later expanded by the second Council Act of 1892. Limited election was introduced in 1909. The Council became a unicameral legislative body in 1921 and eventually the upper chamber of a bicameral legislature in 1937. After India became independent in 1947,it continued to be the upper chamber of the legislature of Madras State,one of the successor states to the Madras Presidency. It was renamed as the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council when the state was renamed as Tamil Nadu in 1969. The Council was abolished by the M. G. Ramachandran administration on 1 November 1986. In 1989,1996 and 2010,the DMK regime headed by M. Karunanidhi tried to revive the Council. The former AIADMK regime (2016-2021) expressed its intention not to revive the council and passed a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in this regard.
Edward Harrison was a naval officer and official of the East India Company and British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1717 to 1726. He served as the President of Madras from 11 July 1711 to 8 January 1717.
Gulston Addison was the President of Madras,India from 18 September 1709 to 17 October 1709. He was the younger brother of the famous essayist Joseph Addison,and the second son of Rev. Lancelot Addison.

Bantam Presidency was a presidency established by the British East India Company and based at the Company factory at Bantam in Java. Founded in 1617,the Presidency exercised its authority over all the Company factories in India,including the agencies of Madras,Masulipatnam and Surat. The factors at Bantam were instrumental in founding the colony of Madraspatnam in 1639 with the Fort St. George,which later grew into the modern city of Madras. The Presidency of Bantam was twice downgraded,first in 1630 before being restored in 1634 and for the second time in 1653,when owing to the hostility of Dutch traders,the Presidency was shifted to Madras.

Due to his skill in the trade,Abendana was widely consulted,including by most Madras trading companies and by his close friend,Thomas Pitt,the governor of Fort St. George.
