History and governance
During the first half of the last century, the National Education Association initiated a Future Teachers of America program. Similar efforts were also made by various state departments of education, many local schools, and, most notably, by Jan Towslee. As president of the Association of Teacher Educators, Towslee made the development of the Future Educators of America a priority. In 1994, Phi Delta Kappa International took the lead on FEA and provided it with an international headquarters. In 2005, PDK changed the name to Future Educators Association to more accurately reflect the international nature of the organization. In 2015, FEA changed its name to Educators Rising, defined as one of seven divisions of PDK International. In this incarnation it set pre-service standards, built curriculum, and created tools to advance the education profession at an earlier age. Currently, Educators Rising is governed by the PDK International Board, which is composed of thirteen individuals elected by PDK's professional membership.
Delta Sigma Phi (ΔΣΦ), commonly known as Delta Sig, is a fraternity established in 1899 at The City College of New York (CCNY). It was the first fraternity to be founded based on religious and ethnic acceptance. It is also one of three fraternities founded at CCNY.

There are over 180,000 living alumni. Phi Delta Theta chartered house corporations own more than 135 houses valued at over $141 million as of summer 2015. There are nearly 100 recognized alumni clubs across the U.S. and Canada.
The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) is an umbrella organization for 26 national and international women's sororities throughout the United States and Canada. Panhellenic refers to the group's members being autonomous social Greek-letter societies of college women and alumnae.

Professional fraternities, in the North American fraternity system, are organizations whose primary purpose is to promote the interests of a particular profession and whose membership is restricted to students in that particular field of professional education or study. This may be contrasted with service fraternities and sororities, whose primary purpose is community service, and social fraternities and sororities, whose primary purposes are generally aimed towards some other aspect, such as the development of character, friendship, leadership, or literary ability.
Alpha Phi Sigma (ΑΦΣ) is the only Criminal Justice Honor Society accredited by the Association of College Honor Societies. Traditionally a national organization serving United States universities, recent expansion into Canadian universities has distinguished Alpha Phi Sigma as an international honor society. Established in January 1942 at Washington State University, Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence of undergraduate and graduate students of criminal justice, and those seeking a Juris Doctor degree. Presently, its national headquarters is located at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The society's newsletter is called 'The Docket'.
alpha Kappa Delta Phi (αΚΔΦ), also known as aKDPhi, Kappa Delta Phi, KDPhi, is an international Asian-interest sorority founded at the University of California, Berkeley. alpha Kappa Delta Phi has established 67 chapters and colonies at numerous universities across the United States and in Canada. It is part of the National APIDA Panhellenic Association (NAPA), which it helped charter in 2006.

It is one of the largest professional law fraternities in the United States. It was a charter member of the Professional Fraternity Association.

Mu Phi Epsilon (ΜΦΕ) is a co-ed international professional music fraternity. It has over 75,000 members in 227 collegiate chapters and 113 alumni chapters in the US and abroad.
Alpha Omega Epsilon (ΑΩΕ) is a social and professional sorority for women in engineering and technical sciences. The sorority was founded at Marquette University in 1983. There are 48 active chapters of the sorority.
PDK International is an international professional organization for educators. Its main office is in Arlington, Virginia. It was founded on January 24, 1906, at Indiana University.
