Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, is a subgenre of hip hop music that emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a distinct but highly controversial rap subgenre, whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. Gangsta rap's reputed, earliest pioneers were Philadelphia rapper Schoolly D and Los Angeles rapper Ice-T and the genre was taken to new heights in 1988 by rap group N.W.A. By 1992, via record producer Dr. Dre, rapper Snoop Dogg and their pioneering G-funk sound, gangsta rap had taken the rap genre's lead and become mainstream, popular music.
G-funk, or gangsta-funk, is a subgenre of hip hop music that emerged from West Coast gangsta rap in the early 1990s, heavily influenced by 1970s funk sound of artists such as Parliament-Funkadelic.

"Regulate" is a song performed by hip hop artists Warren G and Nate Dogg. It was released in the spring of 1994 as the first single on the soundtrack to the film Above the Rim and later Warren G.'s album Regulate...G Funk Era. It became an MTV staple and the song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It is considered the breakout single for both artists.
Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline is the debut studio album by Bushido. It released on July 14, 2003 by independent label Aggro Berlin. The album was later indexed by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons due to the controversial lyrics. The album reached #88 in the German Media Control Charts. It was entirely produced by Bushido and DJ Ilan.

Zeiten ändern dich is a German biographical film directed by Uli Edel and starring the German rapper Bushido, Elyas M'Barek and Moritz Bleibtreu. The film is based on Bushido's 2008 autobiography. The film premiered in Berlin on 3 February 2010.
