"Send Them/Entropy (Hip Hop Reconstruction from the Ground Up)", is a double A side EP by Asia Born (now known as Lyrics Born) and DJ Shadow and the Groove Robbers. This was released 1993 from Solesides. Parts of this were later featured on the retrospective album Solesides Greatest Bumps.
Following the release of several early singles on Hollywood Records, DJ Shadow then started his own imprint, Solesides, and this was the first record to be released on this label, [2] with a track from future collaborator and fellow Quannum Projects member Asia Born. This was a 12" single, numbered "SS001," featuring DJ Shadow's 17-minute epic, [3] "Entropy" on one side, described as 'One continuous track moving from upbeat deck-work and bin shuddering beats, through thick, downtempo head music." [4]
Lyrics Born (then known as Asia Born) featured on the other side with the song, "Send Them.", which received somewhat less acclaim, labelled by Allmusic as a 'Forgettable vehicle" [4] for his talents.
The white-label 12" was preceded by a cassette single version of the release and both have fetched high dollars in the re-sale market. Only 400 cassettes and 200 12" vinyl singles were originally pressed up and sold on consignment in record stores in the Bay Area. It has since been very widely bootlegged, due to the initial limited run, and both artists' greater success following this. The original vinyl copies can be identified, as the 'deadwax' (the smooth part following the actual recorded part of the vinyl) is inscribed "Reconstruction Continues" on the "Entropy" side, and " For Dad" on the "Send Them" side. Entropy is an 18-minute 'sound collage', divided into 7 parts. It has been described as "The first defining moment in his (DJ Shadow's) career" [6] DJ Shadow's style is usually made up of very short samples of other records, [7] of which he has over 60,000. [8]

Turntablism is the art of manipulating sounds and creating new music, sound effects, mixes and other creative sounds and beats, typically by using two or more turntables and a cross fader-equipped DJ mixer. The mixer is plugged into a PA system or broadcasting equipment so that a wider audience can hear the turntablist's music. Turntablists typically manipulate records on a turntable by moving the record with their hand to cue the stylus to exact points on a record, and by touching or moving the platter or record to stop, slow down, speed up or, spin the record backwards, or moving the turntable platter back and forth, all while using a DJ mixer's cross-fader control and the mixer's gain and equalization controls to adjust the sound and level of each turntable. Turntablists typically use two or more turntables and headphones to cue up desired start points on different records.

Endtroducing..... is the debut studio album by American music producer DJ Shadow, released on September 16, 1996, by Mo' Wax. It is an instrumental hip hop work composed almost entirely of samples from vinyl records. DJ Shadow produced Endtroducing over two years, using an Akai MPC60 sampler and little other equipment. He edited and layered samples to create new tracks of varying moods and tempos.
Hideaki Ishi, better known by his stage name DJ Krush, is a Japanese record producer and DJ. He is known for his atmospheric instrumental production which incorporates sound elements from nature, and extensive use of jazz and soul samples.
Brainfreeze is a live DJ mix album by American producers DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist, released "sometime" in 1999. The two tracks of the album are uninterrupted recordings from a live performance where they sampled hit funk, soul, rock and jazz singles from 45 rpm vinyl records. This type of recording was pioneered by the duo Double Dee and Steinski through their "Lessons".
Lateef Kenneth Daumont, better known by his stage name Lateef the Truthspeaker, or mononymously as Lateef, is an American hip hop artist from Oakland, California. He is a member of several hip hop groups such as Latyrx, Lateef and the Chief, and The Mighty Underdogs. He was a member of the SoleSides collective, and is a founding member of SoleSides' successor crew Quannum Projects.
Latyrx is an American alternative hip-hop duo consisting of Lateef the Truthspeaker and Lyrics Born. The partnership grew from the Solesides collective at the University of California, Davis.
SoleSides was an American underground hip hop label based in Northern California, founded in 1991. It comprised various DJs and MCs, the most notable being DJ Shadow, MC–producer Lyrics Born and duo Blackalicious. The members of Solesides all met via the radio station, KDVS, the 5000-watt community radio station of the University of California at Davis. During high school, Davis-natives DJ Shadow and The 8th Wonder used to frequent the station to support Orus Washington's hip hop show. In college, journalist and then-grad student Jeff "DJ Zen" Chang, broadcast a weekly hip hop radio show that got the attention of DJ Shadow and The 8th Wonder, freshmen Xavier Mosely, Tom Shimura and Joseph Patel (Jazzbo). They all shared a like-minded passion for hip hop that pushed beyond the sounds of mainstream commercial music.

Live! In Tune and on Time is a live album by American hip hop producer DJ Shadow, released on June 15, 2004, by DJ Shadow. Recorded in 2002 at Brixton Academy in London, it features tracks and samples from past albums as well as his work with UNKLE and Quannum. The album was released on double vinyl LP and as a CD/DVD set, and the DVD contains additional tracks and material.

He is known for layered production that uses numerous samples, often from obscure sources, to create new compositions and whose music was described in Allmusic as having "revolutionized hip-hop".
Blackalicious was an American hip-hop duo from Sacramento, California, made up of rapper Gift of Gab and DJ/producer Chief Xcel. They are noted for Gift of Gab's often tongue-twisting, multisyllabic, complex rhymes and Chief Xcel's soulful production. The duo released four full-length albums: Nia in 1999, Blazing Arrow in 2002, The Craft in 2005, and Imani Vol. 1 in 2015. Gift of Gab died in June 2021.
Tsutomu William "Tom" Shimura, better known by his stage name Lyrics Born, is a Japanese-American rapper, singer, and producer. He is one half of the duo Latyrx with Lateef the Truthspeaker.
