Environmental Health Australia (EHA) is the premier professional body for Environmental Health Officers or Environmental Health Practitioners (Public Health Inspectors) in Australia. Established as a non-profit organisation in 1935, it is governed by a board of nine directors, who elect a national president to be the chairman of the board. The board administers a Constitution and By-Laws that allow six branches (each an independent Association incorporated under their State legislation) of Environmental Health Australia to deliver services to members and feedback to the Board. Branches are based in New South Wales(including Australian Capital Territory), Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia (Northern Territory members are served by the National office). Each branch has its own Branch Council, and many branches also have sub-groups representing local issues and special interests.

EHA provides the following services to Environmental Health Practitioners: training workshops, Conferences (National and Branch), Environmental Health Policies, Continuing Professional Development Scheme, Certified Practitioner Scheme, Branch-based Achievement awards Accreditation of Australian Environmental Health University Degrees and Post graduate vocational courses, Professional Tools (such as the Food Safety Standard of Practice, Australian Food Safety Assessment and education programs such as FoodSafe and I'M ALERT ), Lobbying to government agencies.

Environmental Health Australia is a member of: The Commonwealth Government's enHealth Council , The Australia Council on Smoking and Health The International Federation of Environmental Health

and has previously been a member of important Committees created by: Standards Australia and Food Standards Australia New Zealand

The name 'Environmental Health Australia' was announced at the International Federation of Environmental Health 10th World Congress, hosted by EHA in May 2008. Previously the organisation had been known as the Australian Institute of Environmental Health, and before that the Australian Institute of Health Surveyors.

An environmental health officer is responsible for carrying out measures for protecting public health, including administering and enforcing legislation related to environmental health and providing support to minimize health and safety hazards. EHOs keep our water, food, air, land, facilities, and other environmental factors safe of health hazards, whether biological, chemical, or physical. They also address the related factors that impact behaviours. EHOs assess and control environmental factors that can potentially affect health, to prevent disease and create health-supportive environments. Environmental determinants of health play a major role in a community's overall health and well-being, and thus EHOs are essential in improving population health outcomes and reducing the burden of disease.

Originally established in the state of New South Wales (NSW) in 1937, the organisation's head office is now in the nation's capital, Canberra. Currently a federation of ten operational organisations is overseen: five State/Territory Associations of Diabetes Australia, the Australian Diabetes Society, the Australian Diabetes Educators Association, the Kellion Diabetes Foundation and The Diabetes Research Foundation - Western Australia.

New South Wales Food Authority is a statutory authority of Government of New South Wales, responsible for food safety and food labelling regulations in the state as well as consumer food safety promotion. It is part of the DPI Biosecurity and Food Safety Branch within the Department for Primary Industries, which is a part of the Department of Regional NSW.

The Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR) is a public register of UK-based occupational health and safety advice consultants, set up to assist UK employers and business owners with general advice on workplace health and safety issues. The register was established in response to the Government’s October 2010 report on 'Common Sense, Common Safety', which recommended that all health and safety consultants should be accredited to professional bodies and a web-based directory established.

Sports Medicine Australia is Australia's peak national umbrella body for sports medicine and sports science. It was established in 1963 as the Australian Sports Medicine Federation. Its current membership includes sports medicine and health professionals, sports trainers, sporting clubs and community members. Its activities cover elite sport to community grass roots sports. It has branches in each Australian state.

The Safety Institute of Australia Ltd is Australia's peak body for the occupational health & safety profession. Established more than 60 years ago, the Institute has a membership of over 4,000 individuals and more than 50 Corporate Members. In many cases, Members of the Safety Institute of Australia (SIA) are actively working in the field of OHS as Health and Safety Representatives, or OHS practitioners or professionals. Other Members simply have an interest in health and safety in the workplace.

The Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) was an Australian Government department which operated from 1 February 2020 until 30 June 2022. It represented Australia's national interests in agriculture, water and the environment.
