It was shot at the Råsunda Studios in Stockholm and on location at Lake Como and Feltre in Italy.The film's sets were designed by the art director Vilhelm Bryde. The French actress Geneviève Cargèse was originally cast in the lead role but had to drop out due to illness.

This was part of a wider wartime strategy of setting films in unnamed countries adopted by the film industry in neutral Sweden. Molander directed a further film on a similar topic The Invisible Wall the following year.
