Metallica concert chronology

Escape from the Studio '06 was a 2006 concert tour by American heavy metal band Metallica. The tour took place during the writing process of the group's then-untitled ninth studio album, Death Magnetic , and follows the Madly in Anger with the World Tour in support of St. Anger .

Previously to the tour, drummer Lars Ulrich had hinted that they might play some material from their upcoming album, which the band also did on Escape from the Studio '95 (when they first used this tour name, under similar circumstances), where they played Load's "2 X 4" and Reload 's "Devil's Dance". Metallica kept this tradition going by debuting a new song informally dubbed "The New Song" by frontman James Hetfield, which runs for approximately 8 minutes. Due to the repetition of the words "Death is not the end" in the lyrics, many fans chose to believe this to be the name of the song, but no announcement regarding this has been made by the band. The lyrics seem to talk about reincarnation, or, as it could be interpreted, Hetfield's 'rebirth' after undergoing alcohol rehabilitation.

During their August 12 gig in Tokyo, the band debuted more new material, a song referred to as "The Other New Song". The song is much shorter, clocking in at just over 3 minutes. Fan reactions have been mixed, with several comparisons to work by punk pioneers the Misfits.

After the tour's conclusion, the band reentered their San Francisco workspace/studio to continue the writing process for their new album.

In addition to a little new material, Metallica also played the Master of Puppets album in its entirety at several of these shows, as it was the 20th anniversary of the record's release. And in particular, rarely played album song "Orion" was dedicated to its primary writer, the group's late bassist Cliff Burton.

The "Metallica" portion of the tour logo is made up of taking one letter from several of their albums in a cut-and-paste fashion. The letters are as follows:

Load (album) 1996 studio album by Metallica

Load is the sixth studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released on June 4, 1996 by Elektra Records in the United States and by Vertigo Records internationally. The album showed more of a hard rock side of Metallica than the band's typical thrash metal style, which alienated much of the band's fanbase. It also featured influences from genres such as Southern rock, blues rock, country rock and alternative rock. Drummer Lars Ulrich said about Load's more exploratory nature, "This album and what we're doing with it – that, to me, is what Metallica are all about: exploring different things. The minute you stop exploring, then just sit down and fucking die". Load is the first of Metallica's albums to feature only three songwriters, the other being 2016's Hardwired...To Self-Destruct. At 79 minutes, Load is Metallica's longest studio album.

Metallica American heavy metal band

Metallica is an American heavy metal band. The band was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career. The band's fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. Metallica's current lineup comprises founding members and primary songwriters Hetfield and Ulrich, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo. Guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted are former members of the band.

Kill Em All 1983 studio album by Metallica

Kill 'Em All is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, released on July 25, 1983, through independent label Megaforce Records. Metallica began by playing shows in local clubs in Los Angeles. They recorded several demos to gain attention from club owners and eventually relocated to San Francisco to secure the services of bassist Cliff Burton. The group's No Life 'til Leather demo tape (1982) was noticed by Megaforce label head Jon Zazula, who signed them and provided a budget of $15,000 for recording. The album was recorded in May with producer Paul Curcio at the Music America Studios in Rochester, New York. It was originally intended to be titled Metal Up Your Ass, with cover art featuring a hand clutching a dagger emerging from a toilet bowl. The band was asked to change the name because distributors feared that releasing an album with such an offensive title and artwork would diminish its chances of commercial success.

However, rather than playing tennis, Ulrich began playing drums. After publishing an advertisement in The Recycler, Ulrich met vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and formed Metallica. Later in his career, Ulrich began hosting the It's Electric podcast, in which he speaks with other prominent musicians.

Beatallica American band

Beatallica is a mash-up band that plays music made from combinations of songs of the Beatles and Metallica. A Beatallica song is typically a blend of a Beatles song and a Metallica song with a related title, though sometimes just a Beatles song will be used as a basis with modified lyrics. The lyrics slip back and forth between the two songs, or occasionally neither, in lieu of original lyrics comically referencing Metallica, heavy metal music, or the heavy metal community. While the scansion and melody are usually Beatles-based, the music is played metal style with some Metallica riffs and solos thrown in. Consistent quirks made in the lyrics also criticize glam metal much in the fashion that thrash metal fans would do, as well as many references to blood. Their version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" called "I Want to Choke Your Band", is an example of their criticism towards glam metal.

Its title is derived from Metallica's debut album, Kill 'Em All. The Damage, Inc. Tour was a concert tour by American heavy metal band Metallica in support of the band's third studio album, Master of Puppets. The name of the tour is taken from the last song on the album. It began on March 27, 1986 and ended on February 13, 1987. Metallica supported Ozzy Osbourne from March to August, headlined a string of U.S. dates between May 23 and June 7 with Armored Saint, and were the main act throughout the fall and winter with support from Anthrax and Metal Church. Roadie John Marshall, who later played guitar in Metal Church, filled in for James Hetfield on rhythm guitar between July 27 and September 25 following a mid-tour skateboarding accident resulting in a broken arm. Hetfield, Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett had discussed firing Lars Ulrich upon completion of the tour, but plans were set aside upon the death of Burton on September 27, 1986 in a tour bus accident near Ljungby, Sweden while en route from Stockholm to Copenhagen, Denmark. Performances that were scheduled for October were postponed and the band hired a new bassist, Jason Newsted to complete the rest of the tour.
