Essays on Marx's Theory of Value is a book by the Soviet economist Isaak Illich Rubin.

Очерки по теории стоимости Маркса, the Russian language edition was first published in 1923. For many years, it was thought that there had only been three editions published in the Soviet Union until a copy of the fourth edition, 1929/1930, was discovered in the papers of Ichiro Nakayama deposited at the library of Hitotsubashi University. It is estimated that 10,000 copies were printed. [1] The sole change in the fourth edition is an inclusion of "Replies to critics" which responds to criticism by S. Bessonov. [1]

The English translation was made by Miloš Samardžija and Fredy Perlman of the third edition in 1967, translating the book first into Serbo-Croatian. Samardžija travelled to the Soviet Union and requested access to a copy of the book at the V. I. Lenin State Library of the USSR was escorted off the premises empty handed. However, Perlman was able to locate a copy in the Library of Congress. [2] Their translation was published by Black & Red, a publishing house that Perlman had set up in Detroit in 1971. [2] In 1973, Black & Red planned to produce a reprint; Fredy Perlman's widow, Lorraine Perlman, was to describe the conflict which was to arise out of their attempt to collaborate with Black Rose press of Montreal. [2] In the end Black & Red produced a reprint, and Black Rose also produced an edition.

Communization theory refers to a tendency on the ultra-left that understands communism as a process that, in a social revolution, immediately begins to replace all capitalist social relations with communist ones. Thus it rejects the role of the dictatorship of the proletariat, which it sees as reproducing capitalism. There exist two broad trends within communization theory: a ‘Marxist’ one and an ‘Anarchist’ one.

Theories of Surplus Value Literary work by Karl Marx

Theories of Surplus Value is a draft manuscript written by Karl Marx between January 1862 and July 1863. It is mainly concerned with the Western European theorizing about Mehrwert from about 1750, critically examining the ideas of British, French and German political economists about wealth creation and the profitability of industries. At issue are the source, forms and determinants of the magnitude of surplus-value and Marx tries to explain how after failing to solve basic contradictions in its labour theories of value the classical school of political economy eventually broke up, leaving only "vulgar political economy" which no longer tried to provide a consistent, integral theory of capitalism, but instead offered only an eclectic amalgam of theories which seemed pragmatically useful or which justified the rationality of the market economy.

Das Kapital Foundational theoretical text of Karl Marx

Capital: A Critique of Political Economy, also known as Capital, is a foundational theoretical text in materialist philosophy and critique of political economy written by Karl Marx, published as three volumes in 1867, 1885, and 1894. The culmination of his life's work, the text contains Marx's analysis of capitalism, to which he sought to apply his theory of historical materialism "to lay bare the economic law of motion of modern society", following from classical political economists such as Adam Smith and David Ricardo. The text's second and third volumes were completed from Marx's notes after his death and published by his colleague Friedrich Engels. Das Kapital is the most cited book in the social sciences published before 1950.

Various Marxist authors have focused on Marx's method of analysis and presentation as key factors both in understanding the range and incisiveness of Karl Marx's writing in general, his critique of political economy, as well as Grundrisse andDas Kapital in particular. One of the clearest and most instructive examples of this is his discussion of the value-form, which acts as a primary guide or key to understanding the logical argument as it develops throughout the volumes of Das Kapital.

There are five main lines of scholarly criticism of Marx's idea of the form of value.
