Orange Egypt, formerly known as Mobinil, is the oldest mobile network operator in Egypt, founded on March 4, 1998. Orange provides voice and data exchange services, as well as 4G, 3G, ADSL and broadband internet.
3G mobile telephony was relatively slow to be adopted globally. In some instances, 3G networks do not use the same radio frequencies as 2G so mobile operators must build entirely new networks and license entirely new frequencies, especially so to achieve high data transmission rates. Other delays were due to the expenses of upgrading transmission hardware, especially for UMTS, whose deployment required the replacement of most broadcast towers. Due to these issues and difficulties with deployment, many carriers delayed acquisition of these updated capabilities.
Saleh Al Abdooli was the chief executive officer of Etisalat Group, a telecom operator based in the United Arab Emirates with a presence in 16 countries in the Middle East. Al Abdooli stepped down as the CEO after 28 years. He joined Etisalat Group in 1992 and became CEO of Etisalat UAE in 2012, and CEO of Etisalat Group in 2016. Abdooli is also the deputy chairman of the Board of Directors, chairman of the executive committee for Etisalat Misr and Etisalat Services Holding Company. Saleh Al Abdooli was most recently appointed as Etisalat's representative on Mobily Board of Directors and Chairman of Thuraya, a mobile satellite communications company.
The 2016–17 Egypt Cup was the 85th edition of the oldest recognised football tournament in Africa. It was sponsored by Obour Land, and known as the Obour Land Cup for sponsorship purposes. 294 clubs were accepted into the tournament, and it began with the first qualifying round on 14 October 2016, and concluded with the final on 15 August 2017. The winner earns automatic qualification for the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.
The 2018–19 Egypt Cup qualifying rounds open the 87th season of the competition in Egypt, the oldest association football single knockout competition in Africa.
The 2021–22 Egypt Cup was the 90th edition of the oldest recognised football tournament in Africa. It started with the First Preliminary Round on 9 November 2021, and concluded with the final on 10 April 2023.
