Fidel Doloreto Rillo Jr. (born June 4, 1955) is a Filipino writer and book designer.
Born in Manila, Philippines, Rillo was a product of the Philippine public school system before pursuing a degree in agriculture at the Gregorio Araneta University Foundation, which he later abandoned for a writing career. He is a recipient of several awards from the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa (National Language Institute) for his poetry, fiction and essays, and the National Book Development Board (NBDB) for his book designs. In 2004, Rillo received the Gawad Balagtas (Balagtas Lifetime Achievement Award) from the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL) or Writers Union of the Philippines (WUP) "for his poetry that exemplifies discipline, dignity and keenness of sense ... while exhibiting an admirably natural and daring approach to and exploration of the world of the Filipino."[ citation needed ]

Francisco Balagtas y de la Cruz, commonly known as Francisco Balagtas and also as Francisco Baltazar, was a prominent Filipino poet during the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines. He is widely considered one of the greatest Filipino literary laureates for his impact on Filipino literature. The famous epic Florante at Laura is regarded as his defining work.

Gémino Henson Abad is a literary critic from Cebu, Philippines. His family moved to Manila when his father, Antonio Abad, was offered professorships at Far Eastern University and the University of the Philippines. He earned his A.B. English from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1964 "magna cum laude". His MA with honors and Ph.D. in English literature degrees were obtained from the University of Chicago in 1966 and 1970, respectively. He served the University of the Philippines in various capacities: as Secretary of the University, Secretary of the Board of Regents, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the U.P. Institute of Creative Writing. For many years, he also taught English, comparative literature and creative writing at U.P. Diliman.
Cirilo F. Bautista was a Filipino poet, critic and writer of nonfiction. A National Artist of the Philippines award was conferred on him in 2014.

He once studied for the priesthood in Galway, Ireland, but left the seminary to take up law. After years of practicing law, he was appointed Regional Trial Court judge. He won prizes for his poetry, which he has published and read in the Philippines and abroad.

Alejandro G. Abadilla, commonly known as AGA, was a Filipino poet, essayist, and fiction writer. Critic Pedro Ricarte referred to Abadilla as the father of modern Philippine poetry, and was known for challenging established forms and literature's "excessive romanticism and emphasis on rhyme and meter". Abadilla helped found the Kapisanang Panitikan in 1935 and edited a magazine called Panitikan. His Ako ang Daigdig collection of poems is one of his better-known works.
The Talaang Ginto, also known as Talaang Ginto: Gawad Surian sa Tula Gantimpalang Tamayo, is a sought-after annual literary award in Philippine poetry. The Talaang Ginto is perhaps the longest-running state-run literary contest, began in 1963 by the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa. The Surian was later replaced by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino in 1991. The Commission organizes the contest at present.
