The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union. Medals are awarded in the categories of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. Generally held in March, the World Championships are considered the most prestigious of the ISU Figure Skating Championships. With the exception of the Olympic title, a world title is considered to be the highest competitive achievement in figure skating.
The European Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition in which figure skaters compete for the title of European champion. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. The event is sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU) and is the sport's oldest competition. The first European Championships was held in 1891 in Hamburg, Germany and featured one segment, compulsory figures, with seven competitors, all men from Germany and Austria. It has been, other than five periods, held continuously since 1891, and has been sanctioned by the ISU since 1893. Women were allowed to compete for the first time in 1930, which is also the first time pairs skating was added to the competition. Ice dance was added in 1954. Only eligible skaters from ISU member countries in Europe can compete, and skaters must have reached at least the age of 15 before July 1 preceding the competition. ISU member countries can submit 1-3 skaters to compete in the European Championships.
Figure skating was first contested in the Olympic Games at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Since 1924, the sport has been a part of the Winter Olympic Games.
Evan Bates is an American ice dancer. With his skating partner, Madison Chock, he is the 2022 Olympic gold medalist in the team event, the 2023 World champion, a three-time World medalist, the 2023–24 Grand Prix Final champion, a three-time Four Continents champion, and a five-time U.S. national champion. The two represented the United States at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Paul Poirier is a Canadian ice dancer. With Piper Gilles, he is a two-time World bronze medalist, the 2024 Four Continents champion, and the 2022–23 Grand Prix Final champion. As well, he is a six-time ISU Grand Prix gold medalist and three-time Canadian national champion. Gilles and Poirier competed for Canada at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Figure skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The events took place between 14 and 27 February 2010.
The overall quota for the figure skating competition is 148 total skaters, consisting of 74 men and 74 ladies. There will be 30 skaters in each of the single skating disciplines, 20 pair skating teams, and 24 ice dance teams. The maximum number of entries that can be qualified by a National Olympic Committee is 3 per event, making 18 the maximum number of entries that a country can qualify.

Misato Komatsubara is a Japanese ice dancer. She currently represents her home country in partnership with her husband Tim Koleto, with whom she is the 2020 NHK Trophy champion and a five-time Japanese national champion. Together, they also earned a bronze medal from the team event at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Timothy Koleto is an American-born ice dancer who became a Japanese citizen in 2020. He and his wife, Misato Komatsubara, are the 2020 NHK Trophy gold medalists and five-time Japanese national champions. Together, they also earned a bronze medal from the team event at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Earlier in his career, Koleto competed with partner Yura Min for South Korea, winning the 2014 national title and placing tenth at the 2014 Four Continents. He also competed with Thea Rabe for Norway.
Natálie Taschlerová is a Czech ice dancer. With her brother and skating partner, Filip Taschler, she is the 2020 Nebelhorn Trophy champion and two-time Czech national champion (2022–2023). They represented the Czech Republic at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
