Raised in a rich musical environment, his father was a 47-year member of the Minnesota Orchestra's bass section, his mother a piano teacher and accompanist, and his brother Gordon is also a professional bassist.
"The Frim-Fram Sauce" is a jazz song written by Redd Evans and Joe Ricardel. In 2002, journalist William Safire said frim-fram sauce was a variant of flim-flam or deceit and "ussin-fay" was pig Latin for "fussing", meaning "playing about fretfully". Safire quoted singer Diana Krall on the meaning of "shafafa": "'It's all about sex,' she replied innocently."

Ludo is a 1967 album by Ivor Cutler, credited to the 'Ivor Cutler Trio' comprising Cutler with bassist Gill Lyons and percussionist Trevor Tomkins. The album was produced by George Martin, famous for his work with the Beatles, in a collaboration that came about after Cutler had appeared in the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour film earlier that year. The album's title and cover allude to the board game of the same name. The music takes inspiration from trad jazz and boogie-woogie and draws comparisons to The Goon Show. Four of the album's tracks are spoken stories, some backed with Cutler's ambient harmonium music.

The foreword is by science fiction author Isaac Asimov. Randi explores topics which he says that scientists and the media are too willing to promote without skepticism and proper expertise.

The Band of Holy Joy are an English band formed in New Cross, London, and initially active between 1984 and 1993, releasing several albums. In 1992, they abbreviated their name to Holy Joy. They reformed in 2002, under their original name, releasing a new album called Love Never Fails. They concentrated on other musical projects during 2003 to 2006. The band began performing live again in 2007 and since 2017 have released a number of albums on Tiny Global Productions, including Funambulist We Love You, Neon Primitives, Dreams Take Flight, and their latest critically acclaimed release Fated Beautiful Mistakes in 2023.
