Flint, formerly De Flint, is a theatre in the centre of Amersfoort, Netherlands built in 1977. [1] It was designed by Onno Greiner. [2] The Flint programme includes play, musicals, cabaret and performances for children.[ citation needed ]

On 25 November 1990 the theatre burned down. There were signs of burglary. [3] The damage was 10 million Dutch guilder. The theatre was rebuilt on the same location, and reopened in 1994. [4]

People

Ank Marx (1962/1963 – June 2020) was for 25 years the theatre programmer of Flint. [5] She was beloved by actors and actresses, including Youp van 't Hek. She was an important reason for many artists to come and perform at Flint. [6] [7] Marx studied musicology. She started working in 1990 for Amersfoortse Culturele Raad (AMC), just after the fire. At the ACR she was responsible for programming classical music in the St. Aegtenkapel (St. Aegten chapel). In 1996 she joined Flint, which took over the programming in the chapel. Over the years she became responsible for the entire programming. She ensured a successful relationship between theatre, cabaret, music, opera and other genres. [5] After a brief illness, Marx died in June 2020, aged 57. [5] [7]

Olli

Olli is a Dutch children's book character and a stuffed toy. The character Olli was original created in 2004 by Dutch designer and film director Hein Mevissen and writer Diederiekje Bok as a character for a bottled mineral water. Olli was one of many characters used on the packages and posters of the bottled water brand and John's Phone. Olli was launched at a party of MTV In Rotterdam in 2004. In 2013 Olli was again part of a campaign. This time to save the Rotterdam Zoo Diergaarde Blijdorp. Olli is part of the Ollimania family which is the company that created and owns all characters. Olli became a national hype in the Netherlands from the launch in 2004. After the launch Olli became the symbol of Rotterdam and professional football club Feyenoord. On 10 September 2015, Ollimania and its creators Hein Mevissen and Diederiekje Bok donated a huge Olli statue to the Sophia Children's hospital in Rotterdam.

Energiehal Former events hall in Rotterdam

The Energiehal was an events hall built in a park in west Rotterdam in 1955, for the E55 exhibition. It was then relocated to the Blijdorp district in north Rotterdam, being used for decades as a sports hall and for other events. In the 1990s, it became a rave venue and is famous in the history of gabber. It was demolished in 1999.
