Franklin High School was a public high school in Franklin in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The school closed in 1982, with the opening of Wallkill Valley Regional High School.
Known originally as Franklin Industrial School, the school's first graduating class was in 1924, while the first regular class graduated four years later. During an era when Sussex County had a limited number of high schools, Franklin High School at various points served students from Hamburg, Hardyston Township, Jefferson Township, Ogdensburg and Vernon Township.
In the face of "badly overcrowded conditions" at Franklin High School, voters approved a pair of referendums in November 1972 for the creation of Wallkill Valley Regional High School, while voters in Vernon approved the construction of a new high school for township students. [1] Students from Vernon Township were given the option to complete their education in Franklin or switch over to Vernon Township High School when it opened in September 1975. [2]
For the 1978-79 school year, Ogdensburg withdrew from Franklin High School and began sending students to Sparta High School. [3]
The school closed in 1982, with the opening of Wallkill Valley Regional High School, at which point the high school building was repurposed for use as Franklin Elementary School. [4]
Sussex County is the northernmost county in the State of New Jersey. Its county seat is Newton. It is part of the New York metropolitan area and is part of New Jersey's Skylands Region. As of the 2020 census, the county was the state's 17th-most-populous county, with a population of 144,221, a decrease of 5,044 (−3.4%) from the 2010 census count of 149,265, which in turn reflected an increase of 5,099 (+3.5%) over the 144,166 persons at the 2000 census. Based on 2020 census data, Vernon Township was the county's largest in both population and area, with a population of 22,358 and covering an area of 70.59 square miles (182.8 km2).
Route 23 is a state highway in the northern part of New Jersey in the United States. The route runs 52.63 mi (84.70 km) from County Route 506 and County Route 577 in Verona, Essex County northwest to the border with New York at Montague Township in Sussex County, where the road continues to Port Jervis, New York as Orange County Route 15. Route 23 heads through Essex and Passaic Counties as a suburban arterial varying from two to four lanes and becomes a six-lane freeway north of a complex interchange with U.S. Route 46 and Interstate 80 in Wayne. The freeway carries Route 23 north to a concurrency with U.S. Route 202. Past the freeway portion, the route heads northwest along the border of Morris and Passaic Counties as a four- to six-lane divided highway with a wide median at places, winding through mountainous areas and crossing Interstate 287 in Riverdale. The route continues northwest through Sussex County as a mostly two-lane, undivided road that passes through farmland and woodland as well as the communities of Franklin, Hamburg, and Sussex before reaching the New York state line, just south of an interchange with Interstate 84 and US 6 in Port Jervis, in Montague Township near High Point State Park.

As of the 2020 United States Census, the borough's population was 3,266, a decline of 11 (−0.3%) from the 2010 census count of 3,277, in turn reflecting an increase of 172 (+5.5%) from the 3,105 counted at the 2000 census. The United States Census Bureau estimated the population of Hamburg to have increased by 16 (+0.5%) to 3,282, the borough's highest level ever.

As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 19,600, a decrease of 122 (−0.6%) from the 2010 census count of 19,722, which in turn reflected an increase of 1,642 (+9.1%) from the 18,080 counted in the 2000 census.
Vernon Township is a township in Sussex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located about one hour's drive from New York City and is part of the New York Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 22,358, a decrease of 1,585 (−6.6%) from the 2010 census count of 23,943, which in turn reflected a decline of 743 (−3.0%) from the 24,686 counted in the 2000 census. It is both the most populous municipality and the largest in area in the county.

The school opened in 1975 and serves students in ninth through twelfth grades as the lone secondary school of the Vernon Township School District. The school has gone through expansions over the years including a new wing with several classrooms; the gymnasium was doubled in size. In April 2007, renovations were started on the auditorium and outdoor fields.

Pochuck Mountain is a ridge in the New York-New Jersey Highlands region of the Appalachian Mountains. Pochuck Mountain's summit and most of its peaks lie within Vernon Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, although the south-western portion of the ridge lies within Hardyston Township, and the north-eastern tip of the ridge extends over the New York state line into Orange County. The ridge marks the eastern edge of the Great Appalachian Valley, and it divides the watersheds of the Wallkill River and its tributary Pochuck Creek. The two rivers meet at Pochuck Neck, marking the terminus of the ridge.

After graduating, Ferrara was selected in the 1981 NBA draft by the Washington Bullets, due to a serious knee injury sustained in the preseason, he never played in the National Basketball Association.
William Vincent Glynn, who played for three seasons with the Indians in a four-year major-league career, was born on June 30, 1925, in Sussex, New Jersey, the second son of Marshall Nelson, a laborer in a zinc mine, and his wife, Esta. A premier athlete at Franklin High School, Glynn lettered as a first baseman in baseball, a running back in football, and a forward in basketball.
